LUZI has committed to reduce its GHG emissions by 25% by 2026 compared to 2019.
The reduction target relates to the total emissions of scope 1 and 2, as well as the "business travel" and "commuting" categories of scope 3.
We are not there yet but are well on track to meet the targets. With our move to our new production facility and headquarters, we have reduced our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 t CO₂e in 2022. Underlying these encouraging figures is primarily the fact that our production in Switzerland is now fully decarbonized. The photovoltaic plant commissioned during 2022 produced more than 40,000 kWh of renewable electricity last year. While this is still significantly less than we expect for the full year 2023, it is still equivalent to the consumption of 20 households (family of three in an apartment). Since our previous facility was only decommissioned in the summer of 2022, we expect additional savings of around another 50 t CO₂e for 2023.
In 2022, personal contacts were intensified again after the pandemic-related restrictions. Employees returned to the office, and trade shows and customer visits increased. LUZI paid for the additional mobility with an additional 180 tons of CO₂e emissions compared to 2021. As a large proportion of GHG emissions result from commuting, we have introduced various measures in recent months to motivate our employees to switch to low-emission transport. As an incentive to switch from combustion engine cars to EVs, we provide our employees with free renewable electricity through our ten charging stations. Similarly, we motivate our employees to switch to public transportation or commute by bicycle. Among other things, to make commuting by bicycle more palatable, we took part in the "Bike to Work Challenge," for example. Over two months, twenty employees covered a total of 4,000 km on their way to work.
Let's keep the momentum going!
