What is WeaponUp Sword Yoga?⚔️
It is the fusion of the kung fu straight sword with vinyasa yoga, but its also so much more than that. It is a practice born from over fourteen years of practice, dedication and pure love.
14 years ago, the founder of WeaponUp and the creator of sword yoga, moved to china to study Kung Fu at Qufu Shaolin Academy. It was there that she fell in love with the straight sword, its movement and the absolute grace and power it represented. This sparked a passion she knew she wanted to carry for the rest of her life. At that same time, she also moved to Rishikesh, India to become a Vinyasa Yoga Teacher with Ajarya Yoga Academy and she noticed two distinct differences in the two practices.
As the years went on, the intensity of Shaolin Kung Fu (the external discipline)— the explosive jumps, kicks, and powerful movements — began to take a toll on the body. But in yoga and some forms of Wudang Tai Chi, Sabina saw something different: longevity. She watched women in their 60s and 70s move through their practice with ease, strength, and grace and thought:
“I want to do this forever, exactly like these women.”
But she didn't want to leave the sword behind, so she fused these disciplines over a decade of dedicated practice. The flowing internal energy of Wudang tai chi. The precision and power of the Shaolin Kung Fu straight sword. The breath and movement of vinyasa yoga. And Sword Yoga was born, known as WeaponUp.
And now? We get to practice it too. 🗡️🧘
