Our voice at the European Patients' Forum Youth Congress 2026 đź’™

Two young advocates from our members will represent EMHA in Brussels:

🇮🇹 Jacopo Papi – Alleanza Cefalalgici
🇳🇴 Selma Garpe – Hodepine Norge

On 23–24 October, they’ll join young advocates, policy-makers, clinicians and researchers from across Europe to talk about the challenges young people with chronic conditions face, and how young patients can help build fairer, more resilient health systems.

Both are standing as candidates in the EPF Youth Group elections. Thank you for representing us!

Does menopause cure migraine? 🤔 Swipe to find out.

This , we’re proud to join the InternationalMenopauseSociety in shining a light on chronic pain at midlife.

Migraine is a neurological disease, and midlife can change it. The hormonal swings of perimenopause are linked to more frequent attacks and menstrual migraine. And while migraine may improve after menopause, it rarely disappears.

Yet too many women are still left without answers. In our Migraine in Women survey across 13 European countries, 42% of women with likely migraine had no formal diagnosis, and 68% had never been offered tailored options for menstrual or menopausal attacks.

Women’s pain deserves to be heard, believed and treated, at every stage of life. 💜

The pain you see is only part of the story. 🧠

Migraine and other headache disorders affect more than the head. They can also have a profound impact on mental health.

Did you know that adults with migraine are around twice as likely to experience depression?

And migraine is not the whole story. Tension-type headache, cluster headache, medication-overuse headache and trigeminal neuralgia can also take a toll on mental wellbeing.

But there is real reason for hope.

đź’™ Depression and anxiety are treatable.
đź’™ Effective treatments for migraine exist.
đź’™ Recognising the mental health impact is a step towards better care.

Living with a headache disorder is not a sign of weakness. And mental health should never be overlooked.

This , let’s make the connection visible, and ensure that both physical and mental wellbeing are part of the conversation.

New in Cephalalgia!
The EMHA-MSS is a novel scale to evaluate the severity of migraine reported by patients.
•
This new scoring system classifies patients with migraine based on the frequency of migraine, treatment effectiveness, pain intensity, and attack intensity.
•
The scores obtained in the EMHA-MSS may be used to foster patient-clinician conversations and shared understanding.

We’re delighted to share that the paper “EMHA migraine scoring system: A novel, valid, and reliable metric to capture severity, align with patients, and facilitate communication”, has been selected as essential reading by our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Simona Sacco!
Congratulations to all authors and collaborators on this important contribution............................
This new scoring system highlighted the importance of treatment reliability, pain intensity, and frequency in categorizing patients into a simple migraine severity grouping. The European Migraine and Headache Alliance–Migraine Scoring System (EMHA-MSS) could facilitate tailored management and longitudinal monitoring, potentially improving alignment with sufferers’ perceptions and enhancing patient-physician communication and understanding.

Alessandra is presenting the EMHA Migraine Scoring System (EMHA-MSS). This is a short, four-question self-assessment tool created by the European Migraine & Headache Alliance to measure migraine severity and improve communication between patients and doctors. The test asks about monthly headache days, acute medication effectiveness, pain intensity, and overall attack intensity/impact. It sorts results into four severity levels, ranging from mild to very severe. It is an awareness and tracking aid, helping people to describe their symptoms clearly during a doctor visit.
