Most people don’t realise the small daily habits are what quietly keep their nervous system in survival mode.

Here are 5 things that may be dysregulating you:

1. Checking your phone first thing

Before your body settles, you flood it with notifications and stress. Cortisol spikes early and sets a reactive tone for the day. Protect your mornings.

2. Skipping meals or rushing food

Eating on the go signals stress. Digestion needs safety, and constant rushing keeps your body stuck in overdrive.

3. Shallow breathing

Chest breathing keeps you in a low-level stress state. Deep breathing helps your body relax and reset.

4. No transition from work to rest

Going straight from work to downtime doesn’t switch your system off. Even a few minutes to pause helps you unwind properly.

5. Ignoring body signals

Tension, tightness and discomfort, these are signals, not noise. Ignoring them disconnects you from your body over time.

You feel drained all day, but the moment you lie down your mind won’t switch off. When your body stays in high alert for too long, it forgets how to fully relax.

2. Small things feel overwhelming
Your system is overloaded, so even minor things like messages or small changes feel like too much. It’s not weakness, it’s capacity.

You either don’t feel hungry at all or you can’t stop eating. Both happen when your body loses connection to its natural hunger signals.
