Click "about" to discover the renovation project of an old Swiss mill by international teams of qualified volunteers sharing a new vision for history. As with the fabled city from J.R.R.Tolkien's writings, Rivendell was a place of rest, healing and mission. It was where the fellowship was made, where mission found it's beginning and the place to return for restoration and refuge. The "Moulin de Ri
vendell" vision is to provide a refuge; a place of rest, peace and tranquility for groups of benevolent servants who serve others. Often, in mission works or service to others, teams are separated into various homes at the end of a day of works. The energy strains through the day until the eyes close at night without a chance to regain the strength for the days to come. Unable to share together the testimony of the day, laughter, personal concerns or group fraternity, these missions become fatiguing and a drain on the morale of the group as a whole. Many a time, a school gym, church floor, or village hall is made available to stretch out the sleeping bags. We see a place where these servants, after a long day of work, come together at the end of the day and share their experiences, humor, hopes, fears and fellowship before a night's rest in the comfort of a dormitory with the tranquil surroundings of Rivendell's creek side forest. The calming churn of the little river, the visiting wildlife and beautiful view are made available as the ambience of refuge and rest for the goal of replenishing the spirits, souls and bodies of the traveling guests. With funds depleted, we are searching for philanthropists to help in the restoration of the monument. So much work is left... it's hard to imply a date of completion. Allot of the original budget was lost on the previous architects' professional mistakes creating huge money pits needing to be filled before advancing. Not one of the architects wanted to leave the building unscarred by their modern signatures. Ordering things to be done that weren't in the plans, without reading the plans, only representing their own wishes beyond the encompassing yet simplistic idea of returning to the age of the buildings origin... wood, iron and stone. The first architect after 7 months of planning said, "Unfortunately, you have now at the end, what you designed and wanted at the beginning". His disappointment was that he couldn't put a modern University floor or airport control tower on the top of our house. We are not restoring a mill... we are restoring an age that the mill came from as respectfully and with as much honor we can contribute to the "original" history of this structure. Finally, Kemp Productions took up the slack and began making the 3d model, final blueprints and detail plans for the carpentry, plumbing and electric with the assistance of all qualified specialist in the their field that came to volunteer. We are so happy that we kept to our convictions to keep it as historic as possible yet functional as a modern facility. The Rivendell Mill is searching for volunteers for the labor and funds for the materials as well as for the occasional professionals that swiss law dictates such as electricians. Tile work and sanitary installation can still be done with non-liscenced workers, the exterior landscaping and insulation applications to the main wall between the habitation on the barn as well. We are sanding rocks in the basement, when thats done, we can wash the dust off the walls and install the electric for the floor which will help enormously. Yet, the principal staircase of simple industrial metal and wood steps is 24'000.- swiss franks, the back wall of the annex (which remains provisional today) is 30'000.- and the electric is another 30'000.-. This is why we have hopes of when it will be finished but no reservations on dates. So, if you are moved to help in the renovation of this Mill's history, please respond with a private message to the administrator to be a part of this history in the making. This project owes a debt of gratitude for every volunteer coming from near and so very far away. This would not be possible without the contribution of heart, time and their helping hands. Please join this list of friends in these shared efforts. GREECE
