Tanja Iovene Yoga

Tanja Iovene Yoga Empowering you to improve your health and well-being through the practice of Therapeutic Yoga. Namaste,

Tanja

I’m a 200-hour alignment-based yoga teacher, pre-and postnatal yoga teacher, and a lifelong student of yoga who’s currently studying towards a 500-hour therapeutic yoga teacher certificate with Yoga Medicine. I’ve studied pre -and postnatal yoga with Birthlight both in Finland and Switzerland and did my 200-hour teacher training with Purna Yoga Helsinki. Yoga came into my life for the first time i

n 2010 and it’s been an important part of my life ever since. I’ve been assisting my teacher Tove Palmgren twice at her annual yoga retreat in Spain and will be there assisting her and learning from her in 2022 as well. I also take private yoga and meditation classes with her once a week to deepen my own practice of yoga and through that, better serve my own students. I’m also a wife, a mother of two, and a nature lover who loves running, hiking and just spending time outdoors as much as possible. I’m passionate about cooking and spreading the joy of preparing simple homemade meals. In my blog, I share the recipes of my yummiest plant-based recipes along with topics related to yoga, motherhood, outdoor adventures. I love Young Living essential oils, their toxin-free products, and how these little bottles of plant power have made it possible for me to create a healthier and more uplifting environment for my family to live in. If this is something that interests you, I am more than happy to share what I’ve learned over the years so that you can benefit from these products the way I have. I’m originally from Finland and have been living in Switzerland since 2017 with my Italian husband and our two children. To me, yoga is a way of living and goes far beyond the physical exercise done on the mat. I embrace all aspects of yoga and strive to make every day a joyful journey. In order to truly be able to shine and feel alive, you need to take care of yourself on many levels. Daily meditation,

healthy & organic food,

applying the wisdoms of yogic philosophy into day-to-day life and

practicing asana & pranayama
are the key principles of creating a meaningful, joyful, and healthy life. My passion is to help people find the joy and importance of daily movement, freedom of breath, and calmness of the mind through yoga poses, breathwork, and meditation. As a mother myself, I feel a deep desire to help other women in their pregnancy and postnatal journeys by offering them a welcoming space and safe yet effective yoga practice that supports their wellbeing during these transformative times in their lives. I am so happy & grateful to have you here in my virtual space and I hope this to be an inspiring place that helps you to transform your life in a way that you can live it to your greatest potential. I’m here to support you so if you have any questions or would like to share a piece of yourself with me just drop me a message and I’ll be happy to get back to you soon!

The last restorative yoga class before my summer break is this Friday, June 26, 9:30–11:00 am at MALAYOGA | Dina De Paola

In a world that often asks us to keep going, restorative yoga offers you an opportunity
To pause.
To let go.
To receive.
To simply be.

If that sounds like something you need right now, I’d love to welcome you to class.

A morning run turned into a treasure hunt. 🧭

I saw the cutest squirrel next to the forest path where I was running and was so excited and mesmerized by it that I didn’t realize I had dropped my key when I took my phone out of my tennis skirt’s back pocket to film the squirrel. 🐿️

Things that can happen when we’re distracted. 😅 I had to slow down and walk back the way I came, and luckily I found the key and was able to continue my run.

Then I saw gymnastic rings hanging in the forest and couldn’t resist taking a little hanging break. I managed a 75-second dead hang today. I probably could have hung a little longer, but I was in a hurry to continue my run.

Oh, and it was hot. 🥵 25 degrees and full sunshine. Thank goodness there are fountains along this route. 💧

All in all, not a bad way to spend a summer morning, but also a reminder that as summer progresses and temperatures rise, it might be a good idea to get out of the house a little earlier. And maybe not keep my key in the same pocket as my phone.

Inversions are often surrounded by big claims. Some of them are slightly questionable 🤨

What we do know is that going upside down changes your relationship with gravity. It challenges your balance systems, can improve body awareness, and invites you to explore movement from a completely different perspective.

And inversions can be a lot of fun too.

I find them to be a wonderful way to awaken the childlike playfulness inside us. To play a little. To have fun. To get curious. To explore what we’re capable of.

And there are many ways to experience that.

A strong headstand, a calming shoulder stand, a supported inversion, or a restorative variation can all offer value in their own unique way.

The goal isn’t to find the “most advanced” version.

The goal is to find the version that serves your body today. And some days, that may mean leaving inversions out of your practice altogether.

Which one would you choose today?

Nature is my playground.

Today it looked like running along a forest path, strengthening my core on the parallel bars tucked between the trees, hanging from a pull-up bar while watching the river flow below, and doing single-leg glute bridges with nothing but blue sky and treetops overhead.

43 minutes of running.
20 or so minutes of playing.
One big slice of banana bread for recovery and because life is too short not to.

A good morning.

If lifting your arms overhead feels harder than it should, you’re not alone.

Many of us assume it’s simply a shoulder issue. In reality, comfortable overhead movement depends on several parts of the body working together: the shoulders need mobility, the upper back needs to extend, the rib cage needs to move and expand efficiently, and the core needs to provide support.

When one piece is missing, we often compensate by arching the lower back, flaring the ribs, or overworking the neck and shoulders.

This month we’ll explore what it takes to reach overhead with more ease.

The goal isn’t simply to get the arms overhead. It’s to create more ease, support, and freedom in the way we move.

Because how we move on the mat changes how we hold ourselves off the mat.

I look forward to exploring this theme with you on Wednesdays 9-10:30 am at Centro Armonia Dubbini in Bellinzona and Fridays 9:30-11 am at Mala Yoga in Thalwil this June. ☀️

We spend so much time taking care of everything and everyone around us, and so little time caring for the very thing through which we experience life: the mind itself.

One of my students recently wrote after class:

“Stillness doesn’t always look peaceful. Sometimes it looks like a racing mind in a quiet room.”

I thought that was such an honest and beautiful reflection.

Because restorative yoga is not about becoming perfectly calm or suddenly emptying the mind. The latter especially is neither realistic nor really the point.

While the body rests, the mind may very well continue doing what it does best: thinking, planning, remembering, worrying, imagining.

Perhaps restorative yoga can be seen as a way of cultivating the very thing Marcus Aurelius considered our greatest responsibility: the quality of our attention, our perspective, and our response to what is happening within us.

It creates enough space, silence, and stillness to finally notice what is happening inside.

Not to fix it.
Not to judge it.
Simply to notice.
And then let go.

Private sessions create space for this kind of exploration.

Feeling deeply grateful for every opportunity to help people slow down, move better, and experience yoga in a way that truly supports their body. 🤍

16. She photographed probably every single type of flower and plant she saw
17. A quick hydration break before continuing the hike and the tour of the three castles of Bellinzona
18. We reached Sasso Corbaro and were still smiling after all the walking
19. 15K+ of walking with almost 1000m of elevation gain calls for a proper dessert

Three amazing days with my dear friends from Finland that felt like three months’ worth of experiences.

12/05/2026

Out of office → soon somewhere in the Swiss mountains 🥾🌲

It’s time for a little break again 🙈
So there will be no yoga classes this week.

I’ll see you back on the mat:
• May 20th in Bellinzona
• May 22nd in Thalwil

Two of my best friends are arriving from Finland tonight, and over the next few days we’ll be doing a little Switzerland tour, spending lots of time outdoors and finally catching up properly.

Wishing you a beautiful rest of the week, and I’ll see you again next week as we continue refining our Surya Namaskars ☀️
