I definitely feel pressure in my job to look a certain way, eat a certain way and perform a certain way

But as my life gets busier and more chaotic I’m facing the same challenges most people face everyday whilst trying to manage kids and work

When you only have to care for yourself it’s easy to make all the healthy choices

But as my life gets fuller i prioritise my health seeming behaviours.

During the week it will be sleep, but at the weekend ill watch a show with a glass of wine.

I’ll get my exercise in but that might mean dinner will be whatever I can rustle up quickly

Don’t have time or energy to cook veg…I’ll eat more fruit

It’s not perfect but it’s consistent and that’s what’s most important 🥰

Doing something is better than nothing.

You don’t need 60 minutes to train.

Even if you complete half a planned training session, it still counts as a full session

Can’t make the gym, but go for a nice walk…still counts.

People often say they don’t have time, but it’s because they’re putting too much pressure on themselves to have the perfect session

Doing 20 minutes 2-3x a week every week is worth more than 60 minutes 2x a week for a couple of weeks and then nothing for months.

Health means striking a balance between our

Social health
Physical health
Mental health
Financial health
Emotional health

There are times where it won’t be equal shifts to all and that’s okay

But the overall goal is that we are looking after all aspects of our health.

Trying constantly optimise everyone will most likely

1) Be boring
2) Be impossible

clearly hasn’t had kids because you then learn to do everything on broken sleep in a body either growing a human or healing from growing a human

He clearly doesn’t have a period every month where you have to get on with life as if you weren’t bleeding for 4 days straight

He clearly has never gone through perimenopause or menopause where your hormones can cause such havoc on your mood, mental health and physical health…and you need to keep living like you haven’t gone through all of this.

To me optimising your day isn’t about doing everything perfectly to have the perfect day….its about doing things the best we can each day that can optimise all these facets of health…whilst also making us happy and feel good.

So Steven I’m sorry you couldn’t function for three days after 3 glasses of wine….but that my friend is because you are currently privileged to have nothing that derails your day other than yourself.

The rest of us get on with our days doing everything we need to do whether we’ve gone into the day in optimal conditions or not.

Imagine having the confidence to go do a solo HYROX.

After a doubles and relay, Hope took on the challenge to do it on her own.

Her first experience was about getting around and feeling good at the end.

The second experience was about looking what we could improve and set a PB

She’s now signed up for her third experience…trying to PB again whilst also refining her technique, running and station ex*****on.

Performance based goals as women get older are my favourite because they encourage

Fueling for performance which is also fueling for health

Social media can terrify people loading their joints or doing any exercises at all.

In a world where we should be encouraging more movement, creating fear is not necessary.

I see it all the time…orthopaedics, physios etc discouraging women from doing things that will only benefit their long term health.

The problem usually isn’t an exercise itself, it’s poor progression, poor recovery, poor technique, or loading beyond your current capacity.

We can all build up to any exercise we want, by doing exactly that …building up…not jumping or progressing the exercise before we’re ready or before building up tolerance to the exercise

Almost every exercise can have a place in a well-designed programme.
