While the last decade has brought remarkable research breakthroughs and innovative therapies for previously untreatable diseases, these advanced protocols come with significant economic barriers.

For many regions worldwide, including South Africa, access to these expensive therapies remains limited.

As Prof. Dr. Whitaker emphasizes, our most effective strategy remains rooted in public education, proactive prevention, and early clinical detection.

Identifying melanoma at an early stage allows for straightforward surgical intervention, eliminating the need for complex and costly systemic treatments.

From vision to reality.✨💪
The first EADO Skin Cancer Center of Excellence Preceptorship at Hospital Clínic Barcelona successfully brought together 25 outstanding young dermato-oncologists from 9 European countries for an immersive day of learning, collaboration, and mentorship.

Participants gained first-hand insights into the organization of a leading Skin Cancer Center, translational research, clinical innovation, digital transformation, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in dermato-oncology.

Beyond the scientific program, the Preceptorship created a unique environment for exchanging ideas, building connections, and inspiring the next generation of clinician-scientists who will shape the future of skin cancer care across Europe.

Did you know that there is a new and different classification for Lentigo Maligna?
At the recently concluded 22nd EADO Congress in Prague, Prof. Dr. Iris Zalaudek (), Chair of the Department of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases at the University of Trieste (), shared groundbreaking insights from their latest research on managing this type of facial melanoma.

💡 Two Distinct Types of Lentigo Maligna

▫️Easy to Treat: Often presents as a single spot with well-defined borders. It can be easily surgically removed, and the risk of recurrence is considerably low. The team proposes standard surgical and safety margins for these cases.

▫️Difficult to Treat: These are usually very large, multi-focal tumors with ill-defined borders. Simple surgical excision carries a very high risk of involved margins and an increased risk of recurrence. For these, the team proposes adjuvant Imiquimod treatment—treating it as a field therapy since these cases may originate from field melanomization.

The European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO) is proud to launch a new educational initiative designed to prepare the next generation of leaders in dermato-oncology.

In 2026, 20–30 outstanding young dermatologists will be selected for an intensive one-day Leadership Preceptorship hosted at three prestigious European Skin Cancer Centers in Rome, Barcelona, and Essen.

This highly selective program offers focused training, mentorship from renowned experts, and direct exposure to excellence in clinical and academic dermato-oncology.

🎓 Certificate of Achievement awarded upon completion

🏛️ EADO Board Meeting Highlights: Advancing cSCC Clinical Guidelines
During the EADO Board Meeting in Rome held in November 2025, critical updates to the treatment landscape for Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma (cSCC) have been finalized.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Höller (Medical University of Vienna - ) provides an overview of the key clinical developments discussed:

• Adjuvant Therapy: Analysis of the C-POST Trial data regarding Adjuvant Cemplimab and its efficacy in improving disease-free survival.

• Neo-Adjuvant Approaches: The emerging role of immunotherapy in the neo-adjuvant setting for cSCC.

• Rare Skin Tumors: EADO’s new initiative to establish standardized guidelines for rare skin malignancies, addressing current gaps in clinical data.
