A huge congratulations to Dr. Moatez Billah Mekki for winning the Best Free Paper Presentation Award at The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons ( )! We were especially honored that Dr. Mekki took the time to visit the TowardPi booth right after his win to share this great achievement and joy with us.

The presentation, titled ‘En Face OCT of the Descemet-Dua Complex: A New Precision Paradigm in Acute Corneal Hydrops Management’ was truly impressive. By leveraging TowardPi OCT's high-speed precision and En Face imaging, the study clearly visualized the location of the Descemet-Dua complex rupture. This provides precise guidance for compressive suturing, eliminating guesswork during surgery and significantly improving both the speed and outcomes of corneal hydrops healing.

Thank you, Dr. Mekki, for your brilliant presentation and generous sharing. is incredibly proud to be part of the paradigm shift in ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment driven by top ophthalmic experts.

Physical Activity Benefits POAG –Revealed by Full Range SS-OCTA!
A study published in evaluated the impact of physical activity (PA) on choroidal circulation in older adults with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using full range SS-OCTA.
Older adults with POAG exhibited lower overall PA levels, particularly moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), alongside reduced choroidal vascular volume (CVV) and choriocapillaris flow density (CC FD), suggesting concurrent impairment of choroidal medium-to-large vessels and the choriocapillaris in glaucoma. Notably, longer MVPA duration was independently associated with greater CVV and higher CC FD in POAG eyes, indicating that MVPA might represent a modifiable factor relevant to choroidal circulation health in glaucoma.
A 400kHz speed swept source OCTA ( , TowardPi Medical) was used in this study for high-resolution full range SS-OCTA imaging of choroidal medium-to-large vessels and reliable choroidal flow quantifications, providing insights into chronic autoregulatory dysfunction and long-standing tissue hypoxia in older adults with POAG.
This research is authored by Dr. Zhonghua Luo etc. team of Dr. Jingjing Huang from Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center.

TowardPi ! How 400kHz OCT/OCTA change practice
“With one image of cube, you have all those 7 measurements (from Bmizar). And you can see 3D image of choroid!
When you have an ischemic case, what you can expect is rubeosis. And with TowardPi OCTA, you can have those new vessels!
We have even bigger, deeper and further (OCTA), we see much larger! Our journey into the eye has just begun!”

Relationship between sleep pattern and glaucoma: a study supported by full range SS-OCTA!
Research published in investigated sleep patterns in older adults with glaucoma, drawing on data from the U.S. NHANES and the Chinese EGSS cohort. By integrating standardized sleep questionnaires, wearable derived-sleep measures, urinary melatonin metabolite assays and ophthalmic examinations, the associations of sleep patterns with glaucomatous damage and emotional disturbances were comprehensively evaluated.
In the U.S. cohort, older adults with glaucoma were significantly more likely to report sleep disorders, difficulty initiating sleep, and prolonged sleep latency. In the Chinese cohort, patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) showed markedly poorer sleep quality, longer light sleep time, and significantly lower urinary 6 sulfatoxymelatonin/creatinine ratios compared to angle closure glaucoma patients and healthy controls. Notably, in POAG patients, poorer sleep was independently associated with both greater depressive symptom burden and more severe glaucomatous structural damage, including thinner RNFL and lower ONH vessel density.
A 400kHz speed swept source OCTA ( , Medical) was used in this study for high-resolution structural imaging and precise glaucoma evaluating with ganglion cell complex thickness, RNFL thickness and flow quantifications, offering insights into the neurobehavioral-structural interplay in glaucoma.

TowardPi i! How 400kHz OCT/OCTA change practice
“We’re now in a transition from small field to ultra-wide field and we have to adapt to these new images.
It’s (TowardPi technology) really something new what we’re not used in our daily practice.
You can do also with the 400kHz swept source device quite fast in imaging of the anterior segment. It’s very useful for clinical purposes!
These are new images and we have just to learn!”

UZ syndrome following ICL implantation evaluated with full range AS-OCT!
A case published in presented a 33-year-old female patient who developed a progressively dilated and fixed pupil in her left eye after toric ICL implantation by using full range swept-source AS-OCT ( , TowardPi ).
Within 10 days after surgery, the pupil in her left eye continued to dilate with pigments in the anterior chamber and high intraocular pressure (IOP), with no light reflex. An increased ICL vault of the left eye was noticed after the treatment with pilocarpine, suggesting that an improperly oversized TICL might be the key risk factor. After replacement with a smaller TICL, the pupil gradually recovered with normal visual acuity, vault and IOP. This patient was diagnosed as Urrets-Zavalia syndrome, as a result of high IOP and inflammation following implantation of improper size of ICL.
This case report is authored by Dr. Ke Li, etc. from Daping Hospital.
