After completing a small side quest at the airport on arrival, I am back in my birth place, Guangzhou!
I just love this subtropical city so much, the dialect, the lush green, the smells of Cantonese food. In the older parts of the city like the south side of the Pearl river, you still find the old neighborhoods with the stark contrast between the delicious simple food and complicated chaotic architecture. I am so happy being here ✨✨✨
The side quest:
I saw two tall caucasian guys at the subway looking lost, I called out in Dutch immediately if they needed help, their facial expression was priceless haha. While I escorted them to where they needed to be safely, they told me that just like thousands of travellers, they were stuck in Thailand due to the war in Iran, but found an affordable way back via China, Egypt and eventually Amsterdam. I hope they got home safely.
My heart goes out to all those who are deeply affected daily by this, and other terrible wars 🫂
