Pandemic Clinical Psychology degree!

I started the program in the fall of 2020, right after my 40th birthday, 6 months into the pandemic.

My hope is to weave my love of yoga, ayurveda, and somatic therapy into community mental health.

Happy to play in Santa Barbara for the weekend in celebration🤸‍♀️💓🫶🏻🏳️‍🌈

Violet de Bordeaux
The most jammy of figs

Ayurvedically, they are the sweet taste, lending to a sense of grounding. Their fiber content confirms this as their seeds support peristalsis.

Freshly plucked from the tree or soaked from dried, it’s not hard to believe the Buddha sat beneath a fig tree when attaining enlightenment.

“I do not allow myself to be overcome with hopelessness, no matter how tough the situation. I believe that if you just do your little bit without thinking of the bigness of what you stand against, if you can turn to the enlargements of your own capacities, just that itself creates new potential.”
~ Vandana Shiva

Repost from

THURSDAY UPDATE: We've got a LOT of hungry mouths to feed! Our pelican numbers are not slowing down, and we are still in need of additional volunteers and donations.

Yesterday we received another 50 brown pelicans at our Wildlife Hospital. We've now rescued more than 140 pelicans since Saturday. (For reference, we cared for a total of 101 pelicans in 2021.) These birds continue to arrive severely emaciated and dehydrated, and some have additional injuries.

Our team of staff and volunteers is dedicating incredible time and effort to keep up with the daily needs of these patients. We are providing food, fluids, and warmth for all of these birds, and many are already showing signs of improvement.

If you can spare even a few hours to volunteer at our hospital or out rescuing pelicans, please email [email protected] with the subject line "Pelican Help."

If you'd like to make a donation to help us cover the costs of supplies, please visit www.sbwcn.org/donate.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, volunteered, reported a bird, and helped us this week! Please continue calling (805) 681-1080 if you find a pelican in need.

Home🫶🏻

This Mongolian wedding yurt was home for the night.
Walking through the doorway was truly experiencing a portal to another world.

This space felt like a metaphor for the past 24 hrs of traveling to see friends in a place I once lived.

Flying over SF last night, under the lunar eclipse, I breathed into the gratitude of who I and the community once was.
I reflected upon my ability to cultivate gratitude for who I and the community I’m a part of now is.

Home is here, now.🫶🏻

Questions from a sea hare

What’s at the root of your fear of slowing down?

How do steal from yourself by refusing to listen to your body?

Can you see yourself in me: moving with the flow of the tides, feeling my way through, trusting my instincts?

Coming home🌀

Experiencing rage
Feeling overwhelmed
Wanting to shut down
Becoming critical
This body, feeling so many feelings.

Yesterday, I laid down in a restorative shape for a 10-minute body scan.

I began by reminding myself that the space was for me. No need to show up for others. Nothing to do. Permission to just be.

The rhythms and sensations within reminded me that everything I need is inside. Self nourishment.

I’m realizing that “self care” for me in the past has actually been after care, once I’m burned out.

Daily nourishment and rest are teaching me that I’m worth pre-care - self nourishment before I’m totally depleted.

The pleasure of getting to know myself🌀

Access to quiet morning centering🫖
Access to and growing organic foods🍠🌱
Access to supportive community 🌏

My daily Ayurvedic practices come as a result of choices I partly get to make based on my white-bodied privilege👋🏻

With that privilege I aim to share what I’ve learned in an inclusive way, encouraging others to dive into the journey of remembering their wholeness and worth💕

Earth teach me stillness

as the grasses are stilled with light.

Earth teach me suffering

as old stones suffer with memory.

Earth teach me humility

as blossoms are humble with beginning.

Earth teach me caring

as the mother who secures her young.

Earth teach me courage

as the tree which stands all alone.

Earth teach me limitation

as the ant which crawls on the ground.

Earth teach me freedom

as the eagle which soars in the sky.

Earth teach me resignation

as the leaves which die in the fall.

Earth teach me regeneration

as the seed which rises in the spring.

Earth teach me to forget myself

as melted snow forgets its life.

Earth teach me to remember kindness

as dry fields weep with rain.

— "Earth Teach Me to Remember," John Yellow Lark, Ute

Things aren’t all so tangible and sayable as people would usually have us believe; most experience is unsayable, they happen in a space that no word has ever entered, and more unsayable than all other things are works of art, those mysterious existences, whose life endures beside our own small, transitory life.
~Rainer Marie Rilke
