Treatment of contralateral low back and leg pain with Zha Tiao (muscle-twisting needling technique) on the deltoid plus acupuncture at GV12 (Houding)

Case: A 70-year-old male with left-sided low back and leg pain for one week (history of left hip replacement).
Treatment: Two needles inserted into the right deltoid with Zha Tiao and electrical stimulation; one needle at GV12 (Houding).

After 15 minutes, the patient felt a permeating soreness and distension from the right shoulder to the elbow, and distension from the elbow to the wrist.
At around 18 minutes, he could no longer tolerate the electrical stimulation, which was stopped, but symptoms did not subside. Removing the two deltoid needles brought no relief.
The patient then noted mild pain at GV12. Immediately upon withdrawing the GV12 needle, the soreness and distension in the right shoulder, elbow, and wrist completely disappeared, described as instantaneous pressure release.
When standing and walking, he reported no soreness in the left lower back, and the left hip and leg were about 70% improved.

The patient was suffering from abdominal pain. A needle was inserted into LI 4 (Hegu) using the Zha Tiao (muscle-twisting needling technique), and then the needle jumped continuously. The pain gradually subsided with the needle's jumping.
