Some more words from my travels in Colombia.. 🌿
The western/colonial epidemic of ownership and privilege; Why do I have any right to write about this concept? Maybe I don't because I am often afforded these privileges, just by being a white person in america. Yet, my effort here is simply for awakening, not to claim that I know something. I don't know much, and I'm always open to learning more. This is just a reflection of what I've noticed within myself and in america. It is a subject I'm concerned about because its effect is quite simply destroying the natural world and the future of the human being on the sacred earth.
It is the destruction of native cultures, native traditions, languages, spiritual practices, food, clothing, ways of living, and connecting.. it is the belief that an individual/community/country can TAKE another individuals'/community's/territories/country's land, resources, spiritual practices, language, etc. because they are entitled.
I am in continuous learning of this reality,and traveling ALWAYS reminds me of the rest of the world that does not live in this mentality.
Just because we think we have received a calling or that a medicine told us to do something or that we think we are someone special, does not mean that we can claim a tradition, a medicine, a song, a ceremony as our own or to utilize it for paying our bills or for building reputation, wealth, or power in our lives.
There are now indigenous medicine practices being taught online. Perhaps in our busy lives in america, we don't realize how backward and insulting this is to those traditions, those lineages, and those medicines. There are online trainings for people who want to offer "psychedelic journeys" to people for a lot of money. The internet has some good qualities to help us connect, but it can also bring vast disconnection and confusion, especially with these types of trainings.
There is something that happens with real presence. Being present to receive moments of discomfort, to process through the senses, to meet the energies of interconnection, is the healing process and supports wholeness...
