This weekend I will be with Maestro Teo and Maestra Marina in their community as we begin the journey of building their own Medicine Center amongst 90 hectares of land that they acquired a few years ago.

Together with their family they have been working hard to cultivate medicinal plants on this land for several years, and we are so excited to bring this project to the next stage together - to build a space for healing retreats and master plant dietas in the maestros' home, where the sacred plants of the Amazon are found.

We are delighted to give back to Teo & Marina and their family, who we love and respect so much, and we can’t wait to partner with them to bring guests of Anam Cara Retreats to the jungle for authentic jungle medicine and master plant dietas in the future.

Spirit plant medicine is a beautiful world that Shipibo healers have refined over generations, and this is why this collaboration is so close to our hearts.

Embodiment work helps bridge the space between revelation and real life.

“I saw” transforms into “I became.”

The process of real healing is not just receiving insights in ceremony. It allows us to take a new shape, to experience something new on the day to day. To relate, speak, choose, love and live differently.

The body is a temple where the unconscious energy lives. It is where trauma, suppression, memory, grief, fear, and limiting stories are stored. So when the medicine reveals something to us, embodiment practices allow the body to catch up with the soul. They help us pratice the reps of softening protective armor, restoring safety within ourselves, expressing what is true, and creating enough openness for the transformation to actualize.

Without embodiment, many people remain spiritually expanded but physically disconnected. There might have been a full experience of insightful visions, yet an inability to sustain change in their relationships, habits, boundaries, or way of being. The body, and embodiment is what turns prayer tangible turning healing from a vision into our lived experience.

We will soon begin building a jungle medicine and dieta center for our beloved Maestro Teobaldo and Maestra Marina on their land!

The dieta process is at the center of the Shipibo medicine way. Here, Maestro Teo speaks about the process, and how the icaros come to him in the dream space, and during times of silence and meditation throughout the dieta.

The Shipibo medicine path is one of constantly returning to connection with nature through the dieta process — periods of restriction and abstinence that ultimately allow them to perceive the energy and wisdom of the master plants of the land: their home in the Amazon.

During the dieta, plant spirit consciousness comes forward, and the healing icaros sung in ceremony reveal themselves. They come through the dream space, with the help of to***co meditations, bringing teachings and guidance from the spirit world and the realms of the Shipibo cosmovision.

In the coming weeks and months we will be sharing updates about the project, and we can’t wait to give back to the roots of the medicine in this way.

This medicine contains an unconditional love, a divine light, a benevolence words cannot describe.
But with it she brings death - and it’s not always poetic.

It’s disorienting, humbling, and in moments, terrifying. Bringing us to the very edge of surrender, so we can meet our inner worlds of control, distrust, and fear.

How can we evolve, without meeting these parts of ourselves?

How can we take a new shape, without giving breath and embodiment to these parts within?

We can’t.

We can’t psychologize or therapize or positive affirmation ourselves away from what exists inside.

It must be revealed, given voice, given shape, we must meet it.

And from that courageous act, of willingly working with death, expansive new timelines are born for us

Ayahuasca will divinely change your life, and you can guarantee - it will cost you your old one.

Each place we gather carries its own unique imprint of land, energy, and culture, deeply influencing our ceremonial work. The wisdom of these sacred sites is activated by the strength of our collective prayer, both within and beyond the ceremony space.  Our Summer and Winter Retreats this year are being held in Costa Rica, this sacred land serves as a powerful container for our intimate, authentic Shipibo ceremonies— and awakens a renewed relationship with our true nature, and Mother Earth.

If in ceremony you feel like your mind is getting in the way, creating stories, distractions and paranoia — it’s likely that there is something deeper to explore there.

The mind functions as a protector to those really tender parts of us.

If we want to get a peek behind the door of the mind, we have to make nice with the protector.

Asking it “What’s back there?” and “Would be okay for us to witness what is present?”, allowing the protector to step to the side.

Ayahuasca is a relational plant. It’s a vine that can only grow when it has another plant to attach to.
She teaches us about the ways that we relate to all things in life, especially our inner world.

Through her wisdom, we get to notice different parts of ourselves and come into right relationship with them, learning to relating to ourselves from a more authentic and honest place.

Light or darkness,
death or rebirth,
where we meet layer present it dissolves and we access a deeper layer beneath it.

Meaning that meeting each layer that arises with presence is the actual key to going deeper and deeper in every ceremony.

We’ve answered many calls from people traumatized by poor practices in so-called ‘healing’ circles. Trauma, nervous system collapse, shattered trust in the medicine - all avoidable if profit and negligence weren’t prioritized over respect.

This is why we do things differently.

We’ve seen the shadow of what happens otherwise.

Our retreats hold only 8–14 souls per ceremony,
and only 10 retreats per year.

The maestros stay sharp, the energy stays clean, and every participant receives the depth of care they came for.

This work was designed to be intimate, deep, and individualized.
