Soltara A Shipibo-led, trauma-informed retreat center in Costa Rica. On a mission to help you to become fully embodied!

There are no shortcuts to healing, and we would never promise one.

No retreat, no ceremony, and no healer can do the work for you.

What this journey offers is an opportunity, and what you receive from it depends on your willingness to show up with honesty, curiosity, and an open heart.

Ayahuasca isn’t a vacation or a quick fix, it’s an invitation to meet yourself where you are.

While the experience can be deeply meaningful, every person’s journey is different, and we can’t promise what you’ll receive because that isn’t ours to determine.

What we can promise is a space held with intention, care, and integrity. A place where you’re supported before, during, and after your retreat.

One of the things we love most is when guests arrive understanding that this is work. Not because healing has to be hard, but because meaningful change asks something of us. It asks us to stay present, to remain open, and to continue showing up for ourselves long after we leave the retreat.

In many ways, the retreat is just the beginning.

Before the ceremony begins, hours of careful hands-on work take place. The Ayahuasca vines are harvested, and the bark is stripped, washed with intention, and pounded to open the fibres before the long, slow cook that becomes the medicine.

It’s easy to see only the ceremony itself, but the preparation is just as much a part of the tradition, a practice built on patience, precision, and deep relationship with the plant. This process has been carried on for generations by Shipibo healers, refined through lineage and lived experience long before it ever reaches a ceremony space.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to witness and share this work, and even more grateful to the Shipibo healers who continue to hold and pass on this knowledge with such care.

It’s easy to become consumed by the responsibilities of being human.

We live with this endless pressure to do more, fix more, and achieve more, and somewhere along the way, we begin to believe that this is all we are.

One perspective shared across many spiritual traditions is that we're not human beings having a spiritual experience, but rather spiritual beings having a human experience.

Whether or not that belief resonates with you, it’s something many of our guests find themselves reflecting on during their time at Soltara. They often describe remembering a part of themselves that had been buried beneath the noise of everyday life.

We don’t believe that connection is something you find here, we believe it’s something that's always been within you and sometimes all it takes is the right space to remember that.

The ceremony is only one part of your experience at Soltara. Just as much care goes into how you're nourished along the way.

We believe the body and mind are deeply connected, and that healing asks something of both. That's why our chefs prepare whole-food-focused meals and nutrient-dense smoothies designed to support your body before, between, and after ceremonies, not as an afterthought, but as part of the process itself.

Every meal is organic, chef-prepared, locally farmed, and sustainably sourced. In a world where food is so often treated as convenience, your time at Soltara is an invitation to remember that food can also be medicine.

Sweet. Bitter. Earthy.

That's how Nico describes the medicine after three journeys with us.

Everyone's experience with Ayahuasca is different, but there's something powerful about hearing it described in such simple, sensory terms. It reminds us that beneath all the transformation and healing, there's also just a plant. One with centuries of tradition behind it.

Death is one of the fears we hear about most often, and probably one you've experienced discomfort with yourself.

For many people, it's not just the fear of dying but the fear of not knowing what comes next.
Where our loved ones go or where we'll go.

While every Ayahuasca experience is unique, we’ve witnessed many guests describe a profound shift in their relationship with that fear. Some leave with a deeper sense of peace while others describe feeling more connected to life, to themselves, or to something greater than they could put into words.

We'll never promise a specific experience, and we don’t believe anyone can predict what another person will encounter in ceremony. But we are continually humbled by the stories shared with us after retreat. Stories of people who arrived carrying a deep fear of the unknown and left relating to it with more acceptance and trust.

What if food wasn’t about restriction, but preparation?
At Soltara, every meal is prepared with intention.

Our retreat menu follows the principles of the traditional diet, meaning no added salt, refined sugar, or oil. Not because these foods are “bad,” and not because we’re promoting a wellness trend, but because the food is meant to support the work you’re here to do.

In the Shipibo tradition, the diet is considered part of the medicine. It’s a way of creating simplicity, reducing distractions, and preparing yourself to connect more deeply with the plants and with your own healing process.

But simple doesn’t mean flavorless!

Our chefs create nourishing, vibrant meals using fresh herbs, spices, seasonal produce, and whole ingredients that allow natural flavors to shine through. Every dish is designed to leave you feeling grounded, supported, and energized throughout your journey here.

This should not be looked at as dieting, but as the first medicine you receive each day before ceremony.

What would it finally feel like to release the stories you tell yourself?
The ones that feel like they no longer fit with the person you are, or the person you want to be.

At Soltara, this is what we invite you to do.
We invite you to read your story, sit with it, or completely rewrite it if that's what you're called to do.

Whatever you decide to do, we're here to support you in that journey with yourself. 🌿
