New concept for treatment of glycogen storage disease Ib and diabetes mellitus type 2: small molecule compounds able to adjust glucose level through binding G6P translocase. GlucoAdjust project aims to solve fast-growing health challenges important for the society with the focus on discovery of new treatments for one rare disease, glycogen storage disease type Ib (GSD Ib) and one common disease, d

iabetes mellitus type 2 (DM type 2). GlucoAdjust anticipates innovative results with a potential to be further translated into drugs able to improve lives of people with GSD Ib and DM type 2 worldwide. This research was supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, New concept for treatment of glycogen storage disease Ib and diabetes mellitus type 2: small molecule compounds able to adjust glucose level through binding glucose-6-phospate translocase - GlucoAdjust.

Karolinska Institutet & Rare Disease Day – GlucoAdjust Project

✨ Rare Disease Day at Karolinska Institutet

As part of Rare Disease Day, Dr. Anita Skakić had the honor of giving a lecture and present the results of our GlucoAdjust project at Karolinska Institutet on rare disease modeling and innovative approaches to studying complex genetic conditions.

The event brought together outstanding researchers and created a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen collaborations, and highlight the importance of advancing research in rare diseases.

A sincere thank you to Ann Nordgren, Anna Lindstrand, Fulya Taylan, Angelica Maria Delgado-Vega, Håkan Thonberg and the whole team for the excellent organization, and to Steve Laurie, Anna Esteve Codina, Richard Cowburn and Ljubica Matić for the inspiring scientific exchange.

At a recent seminar, our PhD candidate Marina Parezanović presented the results of the GlucoAdjust project, which form the core of her doctoral thesis. 🎓✨

Marina’s PhD thesis (mentor: Dr. Anita Skakić, WP2 leader) is being conducted at IMGGE and falls entirely within the scope of our project, enabling her to fully dedicate her research to the project’s objectives. Her first publication arising from the thesis is already part of the GlucoAdjust project.

We are especially proud that the project also provides mentorship opportunities to early-career researchers who are not formal members of the project team, fostering knowledge exchange and professional growth. 🍀

Tim GlucoAdjust projekta vam želi srećne novogodišnje i božićne praznike! 🎄🎁

The GlucoAdjust project team wishes you happy holidays and a successful New Year! 🎄🎁
Behind us is a year of dedicated work, wonderful collaborations, and significant research achievements. We are proud to conclude the year with a major scientific milestone — the establishment of the first iPSC cells derived from patients with glycogen storage disease type Ib.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to and followed our work. We look forward to taking new steps forward in the year ahead. 🎇
