Αμφικτυονία ήταν η ένωση αρχαίων ελληνικών πόλεων - κρατών με κέντρο κάποιο ιερό. Ετυμολογικά ο όρος αμφικτύονες δηλώνει τη συνένωση γειτονικών φυλετικών ομάδων. Ο θεσμός της Αμφικτυονίας είναι πιθανότατα αρχαιότερος της εμφάνισης της πόλης-κράτους, γιατί αντιπρόσωποί της ήταν φυλετικές ομάδες και όχι κράτη. Aρχικά είχε μόνο θρησκευτικό χαρακτήρα, όμως με το πέρασμα του χρόνου εξελίχθηκε σε πολιτική ένωση....more to come...
