On the left, you have a piercing needle, and on the right you have a piercing gun stud that is used in a piercing gun. Piercing needles are sharp and cause the least amount of damage when put through the skin, and they create a pathway for the jewelry to sit in. This reduces irritation and scarring so your piercing can heal properly and stay healthy. Though the piercing gun stud feels pointy they are not very sharp at all. When this blunt jewelry is forced through the ear with the gun it can cause blunt force trauma. This trauma can lead to a large amount of damage especially in the cartilage, like bumps, prolonged discomfort and poor healing. It's no secret these days that piercing guns are unsafe and can cause significant damage to the tissue being pierced. So be smart when getting pierced!
