(ENG) Summer and tattoos ☀️

Most of us are thinking about the best time to get a tattoo. Which season is the most favourable?
We won’t lie, tattoo care is a bit more complicated during the summer but it doesn’t mean you have to postpone the long-awaited acquisition of this body decoration for six months! 🙈

Your fears and the truth:

• “I will sweat and my tattoo under the membrane as well. That is awful and impossible!” - we sweat during the winter too so the situation depends mostly on how much you sweat and how carefully you treat your new tattoo;
• “I won’t be able to swim the whole summer!” - we advise not to swim at least 2 weeks after the procedure and after that it’s up to you if you want to prolong it to 3-4 weeks. 3 weeks would be perfect. After, you can swim anywhere you like;
• “I won’t be able to sunbathe for the whole summer” - well, sunbathing with tattoos is an interesting task because you need to take care of them all the time by putting cream on them, otherwise they will “fade” (read our article about tattoo myths - it is skin over the tattoo what tans really, and when the tan goes away, tattoo gets it’s brightness back)

In conclusion, we want to say that while working we had a lot of cases when tattoos were ruined because of frivolousness and lack of attention in any season. That’s why you have all the power here (well, you share it with us, but this part is covered). When getting a tattoo you need to understand that you will spend some time taking care of it, so it will heal properly and so that no correction will be needed. This is a true investment in the future.

And generally, we need to take care of our tattoos not only in summer on the beaches 🏖 but anytime you go outside and you know sun is working hard, use some SPF cream on it, love it 🖤

Looking forward to seeing you at our studio!

(ENG) Glowing tattoos: to be or not to be

The last question we are going to answer for now is a question from about dark glowing ink ✨

Glow-in-the-dark tattoos used to be popular before inks that react to UV light were invented.
The main ingredient was phosphorus, which created a glow in the dark effect under black lights. It was an irritant for those with sensitive skin and could even cause cancer! Governments didn’t really pay attention to tattoo inks, which is why there were and still are some pretty dangerous inks that shouldn’t exist at all 🙅‍♀️

Because tattoo artists no longer use ink with phosphorus to achieve the glowing effect, glow-in-the-dark tattoos are now generally considered by their producers just as safe as a normal tattoo 🤨 To replace the chemically dangerous pigments, glow-in-the-dark tattoos are now created using UV light reactive ink. Such tattoos are considered “naturally fluorescent, 100 percent vegan, and contain no additional chemicals”.

🤓 But our opinion is different and that’s why we’ve decided to share it with you all. Here are some disadvantages we’ve found:

- tattoos made with that type of ink go pale and stop glowing very quickly because of the certain amount of the layering melanin;
- UV-reactive inks may even fade into different colours if exposed to the sun too much (for instance, blues may fade into yellows or browns);
- the fact that they are vegan is more of a disadvantage than an advantage because it means their safety wasn’t checked as much as it needed to be.

To sum up, we are against this type of experiments, because we don’t really trust something that is glowing under the skin and diffuses with blood lymph all over the body 😰😳

(ENG) Ink contents: what is hiding inside those coloured jars?

This question came from . So today we will talk about ink contents. We use two brands of ink: Solid ink and Nocturnal both of which are organic VEGAN ink 🌿

Here is the contents of inks that we use:

• Nocturnal: organic pigment, ethyl alcohol, and sterilized water.
• Solid ink: proprietary blend of natural pigments, vegetable glycerin, distilled water & hamamelis (botanical term for witch-hazel).
The pigments used are absolutely non-toxic and non-hazardous, under the OSHA COMMUNICATION STANDARD (29 CFR 1910,1200)
Most colors tested and approved by CTL lab in Bielefeld Germany for safety and skin reactivity complying with European legislation on tattoo colors.

According to www.chemicalbook.com: “Organic pigment refers to colored material made of organic compound with pigment properties. Common types include azo pigments, lake pigments, phthalocyanine pigments and quinacridone pigments. They are all artificially synthetic organic compounds” 📚

You can read the whole article on their web-site.

As far as we know, inks we use have the best ratio of consistency to quality in the world market. There is a high possibility that there are some unlicensed handmade inks made from berries and herbs - but we don’t use it, because we prefer not to do any surveys on our dearest clients. 🙈😅
