How do we continue future-proofing exceptional kidney care for patients in a rapidly changing world?

That was the focus of our second Global Sustainability Week at Fresenius Medical Care — bringing colleagues together across regions, functions, offices, care centres, and production sites for a week of conversations, ideas, and shared commitment around the future of healthcare.

Through global broadcasts, local activities, and inspiring employee stories, we explored how sustainability connects to the work we do every day — from strengthening resilience in a changing global environment, to driving innovation and supporting the best outcomes for patients worldwide.

Because sustainability is not a standalone initiative. It is part of our strategy and part of how we prepare for the future — helping us continue delivering exceptional care for patients worldwide.

One of the most powerful parts of the week was hearing directly from colleagues across the business — sharing practical examples and the many ways sustainability shows up in our daily work.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined the sessions, contributed ideas, and helped make the week such a success.

For patients with advanced kidney disease that demands constant medical attention, traveling can feel impossible. Strict diets, multiple medications, regular dialysis – a simple trip becomes a logistical challenge most people never have to think about. But it doesn't have to mean staying home.

In this recent article, published by Everyday Health, Heather Ratliff, Associate Chief Clinical Officer at Fresenius Kidney Care, outlines what safe travel looks like for these patients:

💊 Keep all medications and medical records in carry-on luggage, with a printed list of recent lab reports and treatment orders
💉 Dialysis patients must coordinate with centers at their destination at least 6–8 weeks ahead
🤕 Extra infection precautions are essential for those on immunosuppressants
🍽️ Plan meals in advance – restaurant food is often too high in sodium for kidney patients
Above all else, check in with your nephrologist, as needs vary each person.

The details matter. And so does having a care team that understands them.

At Fresenius Medical Care, patient-centered care goes beyond the dialysis center because a diagnosis should never define the boundaries of someone's life.

Can high-volume hemodiafiltration (HVHDF) help reduce dialysate use while maintaining treatment adequacy?

In this episode of Research in Brief, Linda Hanna Ficociello, Vice President, Real-World Evidence Generation at the Renal Research Institute (RRI), explores dialysate savings when transitioning patients from conventional hemodialysis (HD) to high-volume hemodiafiltration (HVHDF).

By comparing dialysate flow rates and treatment time before and after the conversion to HVHDF, the team identified meaningful insights into resource utilization while maintaining similar treatment adequacy.

News 📢: Fresenius Medical Care has launched kinexus worldwide – a unified digital platform to support home dialysis.

When unexpected challenges arise, having support can make all the difference.

After a severe storm caused significant damage to Jessica’s home, she and her family were suddenly living in a hotel while navigating repairs and trying to maintain a sense of normalcy for their children.

During this difficult time, Jessica’s supervisor encouraged her to apply for the CARES Fund, Fresenius Medical Care’s employee hardship fund, which helped to provide immediate relief.

“The CARES Fund has been a blessing to me and my family when needed the most, and I am truly grateful for it,” Jessica shared. “That’s what it’s there for, to help. And if you need help, let them help.”

The support helped to cover temporary housing, replace lost food after a power outage, and provide stability while repairs were underway. Most importantly, it gave Jessica and her family peace of mind during an incredibly stressful time.

At Fresenius Medical Care, we’re people caring for people: not only for our patients, but for one another. Stories like Jessica’s reflect the care and commitment that make our culture so meaningful.
