Casio's activities were not limited to calculators. In 1974, the company developed the first watch with a perpetual calendar called Casiotron, worth about 60,000 yen[6]. The appearance of relatively cheap microchips in the late 1970s allowed Casio to begin the development of another direction - electronic musical instruments. In 1980, the company introduced to the American market the first musical instrument of its own production — the Casiotone digital piano, by the end of the 1980s, Casio's share in this market was 55%. In 1990, factories engaged only in the production of electronic musical instruments were opened in Tijuana (Mexico) and San Diego (California, USA)[4].
