Once your hormones are gone, they’re gone.
Let that sink in.

We need to start talking about hormonal health earlier. Much earlier.

Not when symptoms have become impossible to ignore.
Not when periods have already stopped.
And definitely not for the first time in our 50s.

Hormonal changes can begin years before menopause and their effects can reach far beyond the reproductive system.
Sleep. Mood. Cognition. Metabolism. Bone. Muscle. Cardiovascular health.

Hormones are part of the bigger picture of how we age.

Yet for many women, the first real conversation about them happens only after something feels wrong.
That needs to change.
We should know our bodies before the transition. Understand what our normal looks like. Pay attention when patterns begin to shift. And have informed conversations with healthcare professionals early, rather than waiting for symptoms to become severe.

Healthy ageing doesn’t start at 50.
And neither should the conversation about your hormones.

What if your thoughts don’t just change how you feel but also how your body responds?

This is the field of psychoneuroimmunology (PNI): the study of how psychological processes interact with the nervous, immune and endocrine systems.

At LifeSummit, Dr. Olivia Lesslar described it as “the hard science behind the soft science of mind-body medicine.”
And some of the examples from her talk are difficult to forget.

→ Stress and your skin
Research she presented found that caregivers of relatives with dementia experienced 20% longer wound-healing times. She also discussed how stress can impair wound healing and how inflammation can contribute to collagen glycation.
→ Perception and your hormones
In the famous “Mindset Over Milkshake” experiment, participants drank the same 340-calorie milkshake. One group believed it contained 140 calories; another, 620. Different hormonal responses involving ghrelin and insulin were observed.
→ Your brain and your muscles
In another experiment discussed in the talk, participants had a forearm immobilised for six weeks. Those instructed to imagine exercising the arm maintained more muscle mass than those who didn’t perform the mental exercise.

The takeaway here isn’t that mindset replaces medicine.
It’s that our biology doesn’t operate independently from our psychological and emotional experience.

Stress. Sleep. Perception. Emotions. Relationships. The way we respond to our environment.

They are part of the health conversation too.
Perhaps that’s why one of the most interesting parts of Lesslar’s talk came at the end.

She explained that she used to begin with tests and supplements. Today, she starts with the fundamentals:
- Sleep.
- Movement.
- Diet.
- Emotional resilience.

Her words:
“There’s so much that’s in their control that’s free.”

Sometimes the most fascinating advances in longevity aren’t about adding another intervention.
They’re about understanding the systems that were connected all along.

We’ve spent years optimising exercise for the body. Maybe we’ve been overlooking what movement can do for everything else.

Cardio. Strength. Mobility. VO₂ max.
All important.

But some forms of movement also demand coordination, decision-making, emotional expression and perhaps most importantly, connection with other people.

That matters because social health is increasingly recognised as part of overall health.

The WHO estimates that around 1 in 6 people globally experience loneliness, and a large body of research links stronger social connection with better mental and physical
health.

That gives activities like padel, run clubs and dance an interesting second dimension.

You may arrive for the workout.
But you’re also reacting to another person.
Learning movements.
Sharing an experience.
Building a routine around other people.
And that may be one reason community-based movement feels different from training alone.

The same principle applies in different ways across the activities in this carousel:
→ Padel adds reaction and interaction.
→ Dance adds rhythm, cognition and emotional expression.
→ Run clubs turn an individual sport into a social ritual.
→ Yoga adds breath, balance and focused attention.
→ Swimming challenges the cardiovascular system with relatively little joint impact.

There is no single “best” workout.
The more interesting question might be:
Which form of movement gives you enough back that you actually want to keep doing it?

Because the healthiest routine may be the one that supports your body, stimulates your brain and keeps you connected to other people.

Move for your body. Stay for the connection.

Peptides are becoming one of the most talked-about areas in longevity. But the science behind them is far from equal.
At LifeSummit, Dr. Adeel Khan shared his perspective on some of the peptides he is watching most closely — particularly those targeting mitochondrial function, repair and biological ageing.

Among them:
→ Humanin: mitochondrial function and resilience
→ SS-31: mitochondrial repair
→ MOTS-c: mitochondrial output and metabolic function
→ Epitalon: telomere biology
→ GHK-Cu: collagen production and tissue repair

But perhaps the most important part of the conversation wasn’t the peptides themselves.
It was the question of evidence.

For many longevity peptides, promising mechanisms and early data exist while strong human clinical evidence remains limited.

And that points to a much bigger shift happening in longevity medicine:
It’s no longer enough to intervene. We need to know whether an intervention is actually working.

Better diagnostics. Better measurement. Better data.

Tools such as proteomics could eventually make it possible to establish a biological baseline, introduce an intervention and then measure what actually changed.

Because the future of longevity may be less about finding the next “miracle” intervention and more about becoming much better at measuring what works.

There is no universal version of a healthy life.

A routine can be evidence-based and still be wrong for your body, your schedule or the season of life you are in.

One person feels better running. Another needs a slower walk. One thrives on structure. Another needs more space. One enjoys tracking every detail. Another becomes healthier when they stop turning life into data.

The fundamentals still matter: movement, sleep, nourishment, recovery and connection.

But the form they take can look very different.

A healthy routine should support your life not take it over.

You are not as young as your face.
You are as young as your arteries.

A 30-year-old police officer — sporty, non-smoker, no family history. And a woman, 63 — no family history, non-smoker, low cholesterol.

Both looked like the person their doctor would call “fine.”

Both had bilateral carotid plaques.

Baris Tutkun — cardiovascular surgeon, 20 years operating on human hearts — showed us why risk factors alone aren’t enough. Only imaging tells the truth.

6 things about vascular longevity. Plus the 5 tests to ask for at your next visit.

This is what you missed.

Health was never the goal.

It was always about everything that health makes possible.

Dancing.
Because movement becomes effortless when your body is strong enough to say yes.

Travelling.
Because the world doesn’t get smaller as you age, your ability to explore it can.

Falling in love.
Because meaningful relationships are consistently linked to longer, healthier lives.

Sunday mornings.
Because slowing down helps regulate the nervous system in ways constant busyness never can.

Laughing until your stomach hurts.
Because laughter lowers stress, strengthens social bonds and reminds us we’re alive.

Cooking together.
Because sharing a meal nourishes far more than the body.

Calling your grandmother.
Because connection is one of the strongest predictors of health and happiness across a lifetime.

Watching sunsets.
Because moments of awe can quiet the mind and shift our attention back to what really matters.

Longevity was never about adding years.

It was always about making sure these moments never become memories too soon.

Most blood tests are designed to detect disease.

The next generation of biomarkers aims to detect biological change long before disease appears.

At Life Summit, Dr. Alexandru Ardelean presented six emerging biomarkers that could reshape preventive medicine from mitochondrial stress and brain integrity to tissue ageing and cellular recovery.

The important takeaway wasn’t that everyone should start testing them tomorrow.

It was the opposite.

Most are not yet ready for routine preventive care. What they offer today is a preview of where medicine is moving: from detecting disease to understanding biology with greater precision.

Prevention is becoming less about finding illness and more about understanding the systems that keep us healthy in the first place.

Your body doesn’t suddenly change when you turn 30.

But it does begin to change.

Most of us think about aging in terms of wrinkles or grey hair. The reality is that many of the most important changes happen beneath the surface often years before we notice them.

Recovery becomes slower. Mitochondria become less efficient. Explosive power declines. Muscle becomes less responsive to protein. Balance and mobility gradually decrease.

The encouraging part?

Many of these changes are influenced by how we move, eat, recover and live.

Prevent the capacity that allows you to stay strong, independent and healthy for decades to come.
