Practice Proposal 3: Under Quarantine
The Spaces we Inhabit...

Regardless of the amount of space available to us these days

It may be interesting to explore ..
1. How we enter and exit a space
2. How we inhabit the space (from a place of rest/listening)
3. How we move, sound and/or transition within that space
4. How our movements and/or sounds transform our experience of the space
5. How our body/minds are affected by our experience of the space

We may be asking ourselves, is there anything about this space that I´d like to change? And if so, how might this change contribute to way we move and/or sound in the space?

And finally, if you were to describe the layout of the space available to you, inside and out, throught movement and/or sound, what shape might it take?

Singing for health practice #2:
Try this from Andrea Olsen’s book « Body and Earth ». Gradually you can add sound with each exhale as you surrender to the pull of gravity. Remain aware of the support of the ground pushing up to meet you as you release your weight into it. Let your inhale move through each lift as described below, and sound again as you release into ground. When finished you may return to the first practice shared yesterday and see if anything has changed.

In times of crises, singing may have more importance than we realize!
Because of the incredible amount of health benefits attributed to singing, I’ve decided to post daily practices here, free of cost.
Singing can :
- relieve stress
- release tension and fatigue
- promote deep breathing, strengthen the lungs
- regulate heart rhythm
- lower blood pressure
- restore energy
- boost the immune system!
- increase ability to flight and prevent infections
- stimulate and strengthen all organs of the body
- bring us home to our bodies and selves
- open a dialogue with the unknown
- connect to something larger than ourselves

A shared experience from an anonymous participant after last week´s class. Join us tomorrow to find out for yourself how moving and sounding with the voice can create a greater sense of connection to ourselves and others!

"In exploring my voice within my body and reacting to the impulses from the voices and rhythms of the others I really got this strong feeling of being connected to one another and the whole group. It is good to know that there is a way out of any „bubbles“ or „fish tanks“ separating people. I am convinced that experiences like ours with the Sounding body / Klangkörper can help to transform those closed structures into open ones, like nodes of a net, and release ones personal creativity within the productive group, as people can transform these new strong experiences into other situations and create new routines of acting together.
