At this time of year, the fruits of the Kobushi magnolia turn pink and split open to reveal bright orange seeds. Birds can see ultraviolet light as well as the colors humans see, which may help them spot the fruits.
A friend first showed me these unusual fruits last year, and I’ve been watching them ever since. It’s amazing how quickly nature changes.
The bold colors look surprisingly good against the simple black and white. I’m enjoying thinking about different plate sizes as autumn unfolds.
コブシの実がこの時期に大きく膨らみ、ピンク色に色づくと、中からオレンジ色の種が出てきます。鳥の色覚は人間の赤・青・緑に紫外線が加わるそうで、この実や種も見つけやすいのだとか。
昨年、遊びに来た友人が見つけてくれた、初めて見る不思議な形の実。近所なので、通るたびに観察してきました。あれから一年、自然の移り変わりの速さにあらためて驚きます。
こんなにインパクトのある実をのせても、しっくりくる白と黒の組み合わせ。お皿は3〜4サイズあればいいかな、それとももっと大きいものや小さいものも必要かな。そんなことを考えながら、秋を過ごしています。
