The cornerstone of the M. Asam® cosmetics brand was laid over 50 years ago. At the time, the family-owned Asam company was developing and producing skin care products. Additionally the Asam family established Germany's first production system for anti-aging ingredients from grapes. Following 10 years of in-depth research on the way in which grapes prevent skin aging, Mirjam and Marcus Asam established their own M. Asam® cosmetics range.

Our Story

1960s - Asam cosmetics are founded

West Berlin at the beginning of the 1960s: there is a spirit of optimism. The Berlin cityscape is characterized by reconstruction and modernization. The population benefits from sustainable economic growth - the so-called economic miracle. Prosperity is on the rise and so are people's needs. People wanted to do something good and treat themselves to something - so demand for clothing, personal care and cosmetics grew. During this time, the young Erich Asam (born 1936), after his apprenticeship and his first professional experience with the well-known drugstore producer Dalli, decided to become self-employed in this industry. In the early days still a dealer, he produced after a short time even the most popular drugstore articles.

The young company

At the end of the 1960s, Berlin became less economically interesting - that is how Erich and Ingrid left Berlin and settled in the Bavarian town of Beilngries. Since 1969 is produced on the now modern location. To ensure competitiveness, research and product development are becoming increasingly important. The 70s: Erich works with dermatologists, scientists and chemists on new products. In doing so, they became aware for the first time of the active substance OPC, which is obtained from the grape components. The French scientist Jacques Masquelier had discovered the active substance as early as 1948 - and the studies that have been carried out have confirmed the potential of the skin care product.

Modernization and setting the course Fascinated by the possibilities of grapes, Erich decides to take the basis for the production of active ingredients into his own hands - in 1983 he invests in Germany's Palatinate wine region in a plant for the processing of grape seed processing. The turnover structure of the family business is changing. Priorities are becoming less important - but you will gain new business elsewhere. Over the years, a lot of product expertise has been acquired - over 600 recipes form the valuable know-how of the company. In addition, the operation in Beilngries will be expanded and modernized. On now approx. 10,000 m2 of production and storage space with state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and state-of-the-art assembly lines will be provided with approx. 100 employees produced in two shifts.

Generational change and brand foundation Marcus Asam joins after his business studies and a time at a well-known management consultants as a manager in the parental company. During this time, renowned scientist David Sinclair, Australian biologist and professor of genetics, confirms the effectiveness of OPC and resveratrol on the aging process - an important finding that is incorporated into research. Marcus and his wife Mirjam take up the idea of grape cosmetics and focus on their own research and development of a care series with the active ingredients of the grape. In 2002, both founded their cosmetics brand M. Asam® based on the research findings of the anti-aging effect from the grape. The young couple also broke new ground in sales - the brand will first be presented on the teleshopping channel HSE 24 and later on QVC on TV. The brand M. Asam is becoming a growth and future field for the now almost 40 years old company. Headquarters with development department and laboratory are located in Unterföhring near Munich.

Successful brands and care concepts from the traditional house The VINO GOLD® line has become an absolute must-have and is conquering the bathrooms throughout Germany in record time. By 2007, TV sales shows will follow at incredible rates in England, France, Turkey, Canada, Russia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. For M. Asam, but also for some prominent business partners and partner brands, further product lines will be developed over the years. These include the well-known maritime premium care FLORA MARE, ahuhu organic haircare as well as the dermatological effective cosmetics of DMC.

Quality that convinces - the way to the world of beauty experience All products can be ordered online since 2011. In 2016 the online shop expands. Asambeauty.com now markets brands such as FLORA MARE, ahuhu organic hair care, DMC, Le Parfumeur, Youthlift and 4Ever Young, as well as M. Asam. Today, customers can choose from more than 500 products for a wide variety of care needs. In 2016, for the first time, a M. Asam product - Magic Finish Makeup Mousse - will also be the focus of a large print and TV campaign. It will also be available for the first time in May 2017 from retailers at the drugstore Mueller.
