Portrait | Paw Gissel

From a small village in rural Denmark to the streets of New York and some of the world’s most remote corners, photographer Paw Gissel has spent decades documenting people, cultures, and stories through his distinctive analogue lens.

In this conversation, we explore the relationship between movement and stillness, the importance of rest between journeys, and how curiosity continues to shape a life dedicated to observing others.

Portrait | Louise Fankhänel

We found a quiet moment in between her travels, to sit down with Berlin-based model Louise Fankhänel, to speak about a moment that stayed with her in Calanque de Sugiton, what she really misses when she’s away from home, and how she keeps perspective in a job that’s all about being seen.

At the Threshold of Rest: for 3daysofdesign , we transformed a working parking garage in central Copenhagen into a temporary architecture for sleep. Across five intimate rooms, our handmade beds occupied a series of spaces inserted into the structure, creating a place for rest within a setting ordinarily devoted to another kind of standstill. For a few days, rest was given a temporary address in the centre of the working city.

The exhibition extended beyond the beds. Every wall panel and architectural element was handmade in RYE’s factory in Ry, creating a setting shaped by the same materials and care that define our approach to making.

Conceived and curated by with exhibition and lighting design by joanna filipowska and , the installation explored rest through a shared narrative of furniture, artworks, objects, and found pieces.

Thank you to everyone who visited, spent time with the installation, tried the beds, and shared conversations with us throughout the week.

For , RYE transforms a working parking garage in central Copenhagen into a temporary landscape of rest.

At the Threshold of Rest places five handmade beds within five vignette rooms. Each bed becomes a place of passage, carrying a person from the architectural interior of a room into the interior life that rest opens. For three days, rest is given a temporary address.

For 3daysofdesign, RYE introduces At the Threshold of Rest inside a working parking garage in central Copenhagen, where five handmade beds are placed within their own rooms.

Writing in The Arcades Project, Walter Benjamin observed that modern life had worn away many of its threshold experiences. “Falling asleep,” he wrote, “is perhaps the only such experience that remains to us.” RYE places that remaining threshold inside a building already given to another kind of standstill, with a bed that carries its own interior across with it; the rest it makes available does not need the city to quieten before becoming possible.

Homes | Martina Branchetti

When does a space become personal? How do form, objects, and rituals influence the way we live? We’ve spent a moment with our dear friend and designer Martina Branchetti, in a conversation on the subtle dialogue between design and daily life.
