[Heritage Highlights] From one shop in Odense to more than 4,500 hearing care clinics worldwide
Exactly 122 years ago today, on 8 June 1904, Hans Demant formalised an agreement to distribute hearing aids in Denmark, the start of a journey that would grow far beyond its origins.
At 57 Kongensgade in Odense, the Demant family lived upstairs while everyday business took place below. Bicycles and sewing machines filled the shop, and it was here that hearing aids would soon become part of the offering.
Driven by a desire to help his hearing‑impaired wife, Hans Demant brought home a hearing aid from England. What began as a personal act of care soon became something more: from this very shop, he started introducing hearing aids to people in Denmark – setting in motion a company dedicated to making life-changing differences to people living with hearing loss.
