My takeaways for Health Tech from last week's inaugural AI Safety Summit in the UK brought together international minds to shape the future of AI governance.

The dialogues resonated deeply with healthcare technology, and I'd like to share some critical takeaways:

1. Consensus Reached – But It's Still Early Days

Health tech must now navigate the Bletchley Declaration, promising safe, human-centric AI. Consider Google Gemini's implications for personalized medicine: How do we harness such power responsibly?

2. Sharing is Caring

The summit underlined collaboration for AI safety. Transparent AI development is key, just as sharing clinical trial data improves outcomes. Can health tech firms openly share safety protocols without compromising competitive advantage?

3. Open Source AI Crowd Disagrees

Open-source advocates argue that accessibility promotes innovation and safety in AI. As health tech relies increasingly on open-source AI for developments like drug discovery, how might over-regulation stifle this vital resource?

4. China Plays Ball

China's participation signals a commitment to global AI safety standards, an encouraging move for health tech companies looking to operate internationally. Will this lead to a harmonized approach to AI in global health markets?

5. More AI Safety Summits to Come

Future summits are set to solidify these conversations. The real question for health tech is whether these discussions will translate into actionable standards that foster both innovation and patient safety.

The Summit's dialogues bring us to the precipice of a new era in health tech, one where global cooperation and safety are paramount. What remains to be seen is how these high-level agreements will manifest in the nuanced, high-stakes world of healthcare technology.

Is Health Tech the Missing Piece in Solving the Long Covid Puzzle?

As a medical doctor and founder of a health tech startup, a recent study on long Covid had me contemplating. I remember people like i.e. Prof. Bohdan Wasilewski were talking about this already years ago:

• How pivotal is technology in shaping our evolving understanding of this multi-organ menace?

• Can AI algorithms improve early detection of organ-specific long Covid symptoms? I believe they can.

• What if long Covid isn't just a prolonged state as we are currently assuming but a transformational shift in the patient's health dynamics? What if its not just merely a 'sequel' to an acute episode, should we position it as a standalone, multi-organ health issue?

• If the lungs (mostly) recover but other organs might not, is our treatment protocol or diagnostic protocol flawed?

• Should we leverage neural networks to forecast the progression of long Covid in different demographics?

• If mitochondrial dysfunction in the lungs can have a domino effect on the heart, how should this change cardiological screenings?

My statistics professor used to say, "You don't argue with data." So, since the data urges us to look beyond the lungs, isn't AI the tool we need to embrace?

I believe that as we navigate the complex world of Long Covid, our usual medical approaches are falling short. The need now isn't just to adjust, but to completely rethink how we diagnose and treat this condition. Can health tech be the spark that drives this big change, going beyond what humans alone can see or calculate?

and ... is this actually a question or our next big task?

Over 65 million worldwide are affected by long Covid, which can linger for up to years.

It's been a whirlwind six months, but we're here. We're ready to take it to the next level, and we know you'll be right there with us.

It's hard to believe that it was just a few months ago that I was sitting in our office in , thinking about how I could create a way to make the world of cardiology more accessible. I had been studying AI for years and had been working on trying to build something that would allow patients and doctors to interact with each other in a new way.

I knew it was going to be tough—there were already plenty of companies out there doing similar things—but it was something that had always been on my mind. And when Mats, told me he wanted to join me in building this company, we kicked things off at sTARTUp Tartu in August!

We met up in for New Nordics Health Innovation Demo Day (by Health Incubator Helsinki, DigitalWell Ventures and Health Founders), our first investor pitching and our graduation from Health Founders accelerator!

In the meantime, we've had an epically talented CTO and Co-Founder Cagri Ozcinar join us and are much closer than ever before to a marketable product. We're looking forward to taking things to the next level by finding research funding for our project and angel investment!
