Some tattoos begin with a drawing.
This one began with a story.
Valeria brought the idea with her from Germany, and the moment she told me the story behind it, something clicked.
It turned out that Valeria’s parents were originally from the Soviet Union, the same place where I was born.
And then came the strange, beautiful coincidence.
Here I was, sitting with a young woman from Germany, listening to her talk about a character from a Soviet children’s cartoon that I had loved watching about 40 years ago.
A character I literally grew up with.
I never expected to meet someone from another generation, from another country, here in Dahab, who would bring that little piece of my childhood back to me.
I fell in love with the idea almost immediately.
And that’s how our collaboration began.
We wanted to bring two completely different worlds together: the cute, smiling, almost toy-like crocodile from the cartoon, and the powerful, realistic presence of an actual dangerous reptile.
In the original cartoon, the crocodile wore clothes and smoked a pipe, a very strange and charming character that somehow stayed in my memory all these years.
So we took that memory, mixed it with Valeria’s story, and turned it into something new.
For me, this is what tattooing is really about.
Not just making something that looks good on skin, but taking a memory, a feeling, a story something that means something to you and creating a piece that exists only once.
If you have a story, a strange idea, a memory from childhood, or simply something you’ve been carrying in your head for years, I’d love to hear it.
Maybe we can turn it into a tattoo together.
