Data Collection: The Foundation of Smarter IPC Decisions
After restarting my IPC Digital Transformation Project — which I began about five years ago and paused for technical reasons — I was reminded of one core principle:
Data collection is not just documentation… it is direction.
In infection prevention and control, every checklist, every observation, and every compliance audit holds valuable insights.
the moving from paper-based to digital data collection, it doesn't only save time —
but unlock patterns that guide better decisions.
🔹 A digital form can show you where compliance is dropping.
🔹 Aggregated data can reveal hidden correlations between environment, behaviour, and infection trends.
🔹 And most importantly, real-time analysis can empower IPC teams to act before outbreaks happen — not after.
Digital tools don’t replace the IPC officer’s experience — they amplify it.
As I restart this journey, my goal is clear:
"To build a system where data drives action, and every audit contributes to a safer healthcare environment."
This project has taught me that in IPC, prevention begins not with policies — but with data that tells the real story.
