1️⃣Normal neonatal albumin levels depend on gestational age at birth and postnatal age.Thus, a single cutoff value to define
hypoalbuminemia is not justified in the neonatal age group.

2️⃣Clinical use of monitoring of serum albumin levels in the NICU as well as albumin infusions in high-risk infants remain controversial.

3️⃣The focus should remain on correction of the underlying disorder rather than reversal of hypoalbuminemia.

4️⃣Low serum albumin levels may have prognostic implications rather than serving as therapeutic indicators, especially in the context of indirect hyperbilirubinemia.

5️⃣Use of albumin infusions warrants caution as albumin is a blood product, thus not without harm.

6️⃣Selective use of albumin infusions may be considered in sick neonates and infants, in the absence of hypervolemia, increased capillary permeability, and myocardial dysfunction.

Obstructed TAPVC is a surgical emergency that presents in the early neonatal period with severe respiratory distress, cyanosis, pulmonary hypertension, and low cardiac output.

A blood gas taken from an umbilical venous
catheter (UVC) may appear erroneously saturated (but should not be dismissed) and may be a subtle clue to the presence of infracardiac TAPVC.

As a rightward QRS axis is the norm in early neonatal life, a 12-lead ECG provides little useful supplementary information
