Doppler Angles: Small Errors, Big Consequences.
Body Text:

Keep the insonation angle as close to 0° as possible.
Even a 20° deviation = 6% velocity error.
Always report if angle correction was used — transparency
ensures reliability.
Accuracy is not optional.
In fetal Doppler, every degree counts.
ASFMS reminds practitioners: precise insonation and transparent
reporting define quality diagnostics.

CPR and UCR — The Brain’s Early Warning System.
Body Text:
The Cerebroplacental Ratio (CPR = MCA-PI / UA-PI) reflects fetal
oxygen redistribution.

A low CPR means brain-sparing and possible hypoxemia.
Always interpret using gestational-age reference ranges — not
fixed cutoffs.

Ratios tell stories — but only when read correctly.
Use CPR and UCR with gestational-age references to catch early
signs of hypoxia and growth restriction.

ASFMS encourages standardized interpretation for better
outcomes.

Less is safer.
In early pregnancy, fetal tissues are highly sensitive to heat and energy
exposure.

Use Doppler ultrasound only when clinically indicated and keep TI ≤ 1.0
and exposure under 5–10 minutes.
Apply the ALARA principle — As Low As Reasonably Achievable — for
every scan.

During the first trimester, limit Doppler exposure and prioritize
grayscale imaging unless medically necessary.
ASFMS reminds clinicians: every second of ultrasound energy matters.

Doppler is a diagnostic tool — not a continuous
monitor.
Prolonged exposure or incorrect settings can
increase fetal risk.

ASFMS emphasizes the ALARA principle and the
correct use of thermal (TI) and mechanical (MI)
indices in every obstetric scan.

Umbilical & MCA Dopplers reveal what the fetus can’t say.
When interpreted correctly, they help identify hypoxia risk early and guide safe
delivery timing.

ASFMS advocates for proper technique, documentation, and reference-based
interpretation.

Uterine artery Doppler — a small detail, a major decision.
Accurate sampling and interpretation in early pregnancy can identify women at
high risk of preeclampsia long before symptoms appear.
ASFMS encourages standardization of technique and consistent reporting.
