And just like that… I'm home. ❤️

Ireland ✔️

New York ✔️

Thousands of photos ✔️

Probably a ridiculous amount of coffee consumed ✔️😂

And a very tired Clare.

I've had the most amazing time.

I've spent time with my girls, seen somewhere completely new, made some brilliant memories and, perhaps most importantly, completely switched off from work for a while. Well not completely as that´s just not me! But I´ve been getting even more clear on what I want and don´t want.

And do you know what?

I think I needed it.

Sometimes you don't realise how much you need a proper break until you actually take one.

I wanted to come home feeling completely rested but we did go to New York! So I´m a little sore and tired but I am inspired and, surprisingly, even more excited about getting back to work.

Because I've had time to think.

I've got some big ideas. Must have been the size of the buildings that inspired 🤣

And I've got a much clearer picture of what I want The Hive to become.

So…

back to reality.

Back to my desk.

Back to the home office.

And back to building the next chapter of The Hive. 🐝

Let's do this. 💪

I've been thinking about this a lot while I'm in New York.

I don't just want a successful business.

I want a successful life.

And those two things aren't necessarily the same.

I don't want to spend every waking hour working.

I don't want my business to dictate when I can take time off.

I want to spend time with my daughters.

Enjoy my home.

Sit by my pool.

Go for coffee.

See live music.

Travel.

Have adventures.

And still have a business that I'm proud of.

So I've started asking myself a very different question.

Instead of:

“How can I fit my life around my business?”

I'm asking:

“How can I build my business around the life I want?”

That shift in thinking has changed so much for me.

And it's something I want to help other people think about too.

Because especially when you're building a business from scratch, it's very easy to create something that looks successful from the outside…

but doesn't actually give you the life you wanted in the first place.

I'm not interested in doing that anymore.

I want the business and the life.

And I'm figuring out how to build both.

I've never really been someone who travels loads.

And that's something I want to change.

I think one of the things that has become really clear to me while I've been reassessing my life and my business is that I want more experiences.

I want to see places I've never seen.

Try things I've never tried.

Go somewhere just because I can.

Spend time with the people I love.

And make memories that have absolutely nothing to do with work.

Which is exactly what I'm doing right now.

Five nights in New York.

My daughters.

A city I've never been to.

And absolutely no idea what to expect. 😂

It's exciting.

It's slightly overwhelming.

And I'm loving every minute.

And maybe that's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about building a business around the life you want.

Because what's the point of building a business that gives you money but no time to actually enjoy it?

I don't want that.

I want both.

Well…

WE'RE HERE! 🇺🇸🗽

I honestly can't believe I'm saying that.

New York is not somewhere that´s been at the top of my list but it´s somewhere my daughters and I decided on going together. And now we´re finally here!

I've never travelled loads, in face I´ve not really travelled anywhere! So this feels like a pretty big adventure for me.

And I have absolutely no intention of spending the next five days thinking about work.

There will be walking.

A LOT of walking.

Food.

Coffee.

Sightseeing.

Shopping.

Cocktails.

And probably me saying “Oh my God, look at that!” approximately every 30 seconds. 😂

I'm going to soak up every minute.

Because one of the things I've been thinking about so much over the last few months is actually living the life I'm building my business to support.

So for the next few days…

The laptop can stay shut.

New York, I'm ready for you. ❤️

There are some trips that are about ticking somewhere off a list.

And then there are trips that are about people. ❤️

I've spent a little time in Ireland with my daughters, before we head off on our next adventure. Well my kind of first adventure, not theirs as they´re always jetting off somewhere!

And I'm really looking forward to having a change of scenery and...

No work.

No business planning.

No trying to be productive.

Just being together.

And I'm increasingly realising how valuable that is.

Because when you're self-employed, it's very easy to think you should always be doing something.

There's always another email.

Another post.

Another idea.

Another task.

But sometimes the most important thing you can do is put the laptop away and go and make some memories.

So that's exactly what I'm doing.

It´s been Ireland first for a few days.

Then… New York. 🇺🇸🗽

And yes, I am VERY excited! 😂

Sometimes you need to stop.

This summer has been a little different.

I've spent a lot of time at home.

And after everything that's been going on with the house, I've finally been able to actually enjoy it.

The pool.

The garden.

The new rooms.

My home office.

The little spaces I've created.

There's something quite satisfying about finally being able to sit back and enjoy something you've spent months working on.

And because it's been so hot here in Spain, some days haven't involved much more than swimming, sitting outside and trying not to melt. 😂

But I've needed it.

I've needed the slower pace.

The space to think.

The time to reassess.

And the opportunity to work out what I actually want the next chapter of my life and business to look like.

I've also spent time with my daughters and family, and done things simply because I wanted to, rather than because they were productive or business-related.

And I think that's been an important part of this whole process.

Sometimes stepping back isn't doing nothing.

Sometimes it's exactly what you need to work out where you're going next. ❤️

The house wasn't just a distraction...

I've spent a LOT of time working on my house over the last few months.

A new bathroom.

Spare bedroom.

Utility room.

Garden.

Pool area.

And, of course, the roof.

I've created a home office that I absolutely love, and that might sound like a completely separate thing from my business…

But actually, it isn't.

Because one of the things I've been thinking about constantly is how I want my business to fit into my life.

For years, I think I've had it slightly backwards.

I've thought about the business first and then tried to fit everything else around it.

Now I'm thinking about the life first.

What do I want my days to look like?

Where do I want to work?

How much do I want to work?

Who do I want to spend time with?

Where do I want to travel?

What do I want to be able to say yes to?

And then…

What does my business need to look like to make that possible?

That change in thinking has completely changed the way I'm approaching The Hive.

I don't want to build a business that simply keeps me busy.

I want to build one that gives me freedom.

And actually, that's something I want for my clients too.

Because surely that's one of the reasons we become self-employed in the first place?

Not to create ourselves another job.

But to create something that works for us.

It’s been a while…

so where have I been?

If you've been following me for a while, you might have noticed I've been a little… quiet.

Okay, very quiet. 😂

And there's actually been quite a lot going on behind the scenes.

The physical Hive has been sold and I'm now taking The Hive fully online, which means I'll be working from home.

But that's only part of the story.

I've spent the last few months making some pretty big changes at home, working on the house, creating a beautiful home office and generally tackling all those jobs that seem to multiply when you own a house in Spain.

And yes… there was a leaking roof involved. Because apparently owning a Spanish house isn't complete without one. 😂

But while I've been making changes to my home, I've also been making changes to my business.

I've taken a step back and really thought about what I want my business to look like.

Who do I actually want to help?

What do I want my days to look like?

What do I want my life to look like?

Why am I doing this?

And perhaps most importantly…

What do I actually want to build?

And I finally feel like I've got some really clear answers.

So I'm coming back.

A little different.

A lot clearer.

And very excited about this next chapter of The Hive.

Is it the longest January ever?

Usually for me January seems to drag on and on. This year it’s going so fast!
I think that’s because I’ve been making lots of changes in the business and this needs time. I feel like my time is running out 😬

February is almost here! But so are my plans and strategies 😃

I can’t wait to help more and more therapists and practitioners this year to realise that they can have a business mindset and create the business they want in a really simple way.
