3000 hours teaching private yoga classes.
My four years teaching yoga and meditation and breathwork at SHA Wellness Clinic in el Albir feels like a Masters in private yoga classes.
Context: I would enter the complex without knowing how many classes I might teach, nor who my students would be. There would be some rudimentary notes about each client’s health history, but little else.
In a scant 50 minutes, I would try to understand their specific needs and aims, then deliver a class that hit just right.
It was masterclass clinical wellness work and I am proud to say that I was consistently one of the most highly praised and evaluated therapists.
My personal growth point: overcoming imposter syndrome. Despite having practised and taught yoga for 20 years, thoughts like “what’s a white western woman doing teaching yoga” ran though my head on repeat. I have such awe and respect for yoga and I am so aware of cultural colonization that I am perhaps overly careful.
The SHA cured me of imposter syndrome. Grateful.
