What actually happens in an Ayahuasca ceremony?
If you’ve never sat with Ayahuasca before, it can be hard to know what to expect beyond the stories you hear from other people.
The truth is, every ceremony is different. But there are certain elements that often form part of the experience like preparing the space, opening the ceremony, drinking the medicine, silence, music and icaros, the journey itself, possible purging, and finally coming back together and beginning the integration process.
And then there’s everything in between.
The emotions, the unexpected moments, the things you may see or remember, and the parts of yourself you may be invited to meet. Some moments can feel beautiful, others challenging, and sometimes both within the same night.
We’ve put together a detailed guide for anyone who is curious about what really happens during an Ayahuasca ceremony.
