From 350 in June to 400 in the heart of summer — a sign that the trial has found its rhythm, that the hospital network is working, and that patients continue to place their trust in this research.

LIVERATION has just reached a new milestone: 350 patients randomised, halfway towards the trial's total recruitment target.

Thank you to each and every patient who has decided to be part of this project. Without them, none of this would be possible.

And what comes next is equally relevant: in approximately five months, we expect to have the first interim results of the trial.

Today, LIVERATION is taking part in the 13th Conference of the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in Spain, organised by CDTI alongside the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the European Commission and Acció.

We are sharing the progress of our clinical trial with the European research and innovation community, through the poster exhibition for projects funded by Horizon Europe.

David Alcántara is representing the project at this event, held at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya.

🏃‍♀️💙 Bringing research closer to people!

On May 9th, our partner SHINE 2Europe took part in the 3rd edition of the “Mexer Contra o Cancro” (Move Against Cancer) initiative in Lisbon, organised by the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro.

The event combined science, community engagement and physical activity to support cancer research and promote healthier lifestyles.

Through an interactive stand and the “Prevention Wheel”, the SHINE team shared information about the LIVERATION project with families, volunteers, local authorities and members of the public, helping to raise awareness about cancer prevention, health literacy and the importance of inclusive research.

✨ Together, participants helped the event exceed its fundraising goals, generating enough support to finance at least 10 oncology research grants.

A big thank you to SHINE 2Europe for helping us strengthen the connection between research and society and for bringing the values of LIVERATION beyond the laboratory.

Today the LIVERATION clinical trial reaches an important milestone: 300 patients randomised.

But behind that number is something no dataset fully captures.

A patient who travelled two hours to reach the clinical site. A surgeon who completed the protocol at 11pm. Ethics committees across several countries who believed this was worth doing.

Their participation is what makes this research possible. For them, and for those who will come after.

Every year, thousands of patients successfully undergo liver cancer surgery. And yet, in 70% of cases, cancer comes back within the following 5 years.

The reason? Something invisible to the naked eye: the surgical margin.

Along that edge of tissue surrounding the tumour, microscopic cancer cells can remain that no eye can detect. And if they do, cancer has an open door to return.

The LIVERATION project, funded by Horizon Europe, is working to close that door. With 300 patients already randomised across 7 European countries, we are closer to the answer.
