We are deeply grateful that Dr. Alexandra Chen has agreed to join us on May 21st at 5:00 PM BST to discuss this important topic. Lone Sorensen will also be present during the meeting. Dr. Alexandra Chen has additionally completed the Trauma Reflexotherapy Method training developed by Lone Sorensen.
Dr. Alexandra Chen (A.B., A.M., Ed.M., PhD., Harvard University) is a trauma psychologist from Hong Kong serving refugees affected by armed conflict and displacement. For more than 15 years, Alexandra has worked with war-affected children and families across the Middle East and Africa, advising the UN, World Bank, government ministries, and non-profit organizations on mental health, trauma care, and early childhood intervention.
Her work also includes providing psychotherapy for survivors of sexual violence and torture from regions including Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Myanmar.
Alexandra has spoken at the World Economic Forum since 2011 on behalf of refugee children and has been interviewed by international media such as The New York Times, NPR, and Al Jazeera.
She has published in leading journals, including The Lancet and Child Development, on the neuropsychological impact of trauma and toxic stress on refugee children, parenting, and cognitive functioning in displacement. Her work was also featured in the award-winning documentary Terror and Hope: The Science of Resilience.
Alexandra is the founder of Early Light Lab, a science-driven initiative advancing the protection and future of children affected by armed conflict, and she serves on the boards of several international non-profit organizations. She speaks 10 languages, including Chinese, Arabic, and French.
