CLAM SHELLS

I pretty much include this exercise in my Pilates classes 90% of the time. Great for glutes and hip stabilisers and can be made easier or harder by using props like the loop band or a small ball and by changing the foot position (on the floor or up in the air).

- 8 to 12 repetitions per exercise

- engage through upper and lower belly by pulling the navel in

- careful not to pull with your neck

- move with the tempo of your breath - exhale on effort!

The primary cause is the accelerated loss of estrogen, which acts to balance bone-building and bone-breaking cells.

Bone loss is most rapid in the first 1–2 years after menopause.

Besides menopause, factors include early menopause, genetics, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and low calcium/vitamin D intake.
