PCOS (Polycyctic Ovarian Syndrome) is now PMOS (Polycystic Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome). The new name better reflects what this condition really is: a complex metabolic and hormonal condition that affects the whole woman, not just her ovaries.

Don´t get me wrong, this change is good as women have been simply handed the pill or metformin for decades, brushing off any metabolic issue.
Saying that, the rebrand is unlikely to come with a sudden change of approach or even solutions from the medical profession.
Until you address the underlying problem, the pill or metformin will only help manage your weight and give you the illusion of a cycle (did you know that when you bleed when on the pill it isn´t actually a real period?)
Treating the whole woman is the answer, and that means looking at the whole of you, from what you eat, how you sleep, how you p**p (yeah, that too!), how you feel emotionally, how stressed you are, and the list goes on.

A teacher of mine says you cannot have a tense mind in a truly relaxed body.

To the purpose of relaxing the body, the practice of slow, mindful movemnt like yoga, tai chi or qigong can be wonderfully effective.....and of course acupuncture!

Our bodies thrive on rhythms. Not a rigid schedule, but gentle and consistent repetition.
In women, these cycles are heightened as we are also following the ebbs and flows of our menstrual cycles. Our rhythms mirror those of nature and the seasons, and it is often the simple habits that help build balance in our life.
Keeping food and drinks warm will help support our digestive fire.
Supporting our organs at their peak time :7-9am is the peak time for the Stomach channel and the best time to break down food, 11pm-3am is important rest time for the Gallbladder and Liver, a time to allow the Blood to return to the organs and rest and repair to happen.
Valuing and making time for rest is paramount in our fast-paced modern world. Create moments of quiet (even if a few intentional deep breaths) will help calm your nervous system and keep your Qi from getting stagnant.
Slow movement exercise that combine breath and movement will also help regulate your nervous system, soften your fascia and help release tensions.

Replenishing your body after a monthly bleed will help to gently build and move Blood.

Small, regular acts are what truly creates harmony long term.
They are less ostentatious, have no wow factor, but quietly keep you anchored and grounded, stronger and more resilient.
Health doesn´t require perfection, it just needs consistency 😊

PAINFUL PERIODS? PREMENSTRUAL SYMPTOMS? This happens to most women at one point or another, but for too many, those symptoms are the norm. Chinese medicine offers tools to get to the root cause of the problem, but there are easy simple steps you can implement that may help with PMS and period pain relief:

1. Heat: Applying a hot water bottle, or better yet a moxa stick or using a moxa box onto your lower abdomen can help relax the muscles and alleviate cramps. If you have questions about moxa or need a moxa box and moxa, you can buy them from me at my clinic.

2. Exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity, such as light aerobic exercises or yoga, can help relieve menstrual pain by increasing blood circulation and releasing endorphins.

3. Herbal remedies: Some herbal teas, such as chamomile, ginger, or peppermint, are believed to have pain-relieving properties.

4. Dietary adjustments: Eating a balanced diet that includes anti-inflammatory foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish and nuts) may help reduce menstrual pain. Also: REDUCE SUGAR AND PROCESSED FOODS!!

5. Essential oils: Certain essential oils, like lavender, clary sage, or peppermint, when diluted and applied topically or used in aromatherapy, may provide relief from menstrual cramps. Essential oils have become fashionable but should be used following guidelines from a trained professional. Hearing how you can make your own ingestable capsules with essential oils makes me cringe. You can burn mucosal lining, and similarly irritate your skin when used topically, your eyes when used in the environment so USE WITH CARE.

6. Stress reduction techniques: Stress can exacerbate menstrual pain, so practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness can help alleviate discomfort.

7. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can be very helpful to regulate hormones. Get in touch for a free 15-minute consultation 🙂📞
