Pain Relief & Movement Improvement.

That’s the goal.

How we get there depends on what your body needs:
• Myofascial release
• Trigger point therapy
• Nervous system regulation
• Passive stretching
• Targeted exercises

One body. One individual approach. No one-size-fits-all.

For a couple of months I have been doing gentle personal training with a woman in her 60's. She is on a "Get Stronger Because I Want To Stay Independent" journey. We do a mixture of mobility training, strength, functional training and balance — every week completely different exercises. I call it just "playing with your body and exploring what it is capable of."

She told me yesterday that she notices things are shifting. In daily life she notices improvements. On her daily dog walk there is a steep part where before she sometimes had to stop and take a breath. Not anymore. Even though we did not really work on endurance or cardio.

The beautiful thing I see is that when we do an exercise and she notices her limitation, weakness, or stiffness, she laughs about it and embraces it. I love that attitude. "I am not there yet."

This is what happens when you stop chasing a number on a scale or a personal best on a machine, and start simply exploring what your body can do. She came looking for strength. What she found was better movement. And what she's really gaining is confidence in her body — and the freedom to keep doing what she loves.

This week I had a client on my couch with returning pain and decreased range of motion in her shoulder.

What is happening with her, I see quite often in my clinic: a protection mechanism.

Many years ago she had breast cancer, so she had an operation and they removed some lymph nodes.
She has the risk of lymphedema in her arm and although that hasn't happened for a long time, she is very aware of the risk.
Plus, she had a very painful and stiff shoulder after walking with crutches for quite a while, about a year ago.

So, what she tends to do, probably subconsciously, is squeezing her arm against her ribcage. The muscles responsible for that were very tight. The whole capsule around the shoulder joint had tightened and then the shoulder couldn't move properly.

I freed up the chest muscles and teres major/minor, released the fascia around the joint and into the arm.
Her range of motion straight away improved a lot.
Ideally she should have more work done along the torso, pelvis and legs towards her feet, so it is all freed up.

And then start building up some strength again.

What about you? Do you protect your body against (potential) pain? Do you compensate? Could that be making it worse?

Comment RELIEF if you want to find out if I can help you out.

Why I say "I don't build buildings, I build bodies"

People are always a bit surprised when I tell them I originally trained as an architect and technical engineer. And then I usually joke — I don't build buildings anymore, I build bodies. But honestly? That's exactly how I approach a treatment.

I look at the body the same way I'd look at a structure. When someone stands in front of me, I'm observing — where do I see tension, or asymmetry, left to right? Is there a lean, like the leaning tower of Pisa, tilting off to one side? And just like with any structure, it usually starts at the foundation — your feet. Everything above is built on that.

Then I watch you move. I've been in the fitness industry for 30 years, so I've watched an awful lot of bodies move — and by now, it's almost like I can feel what's happening inside someone just from watching them walk across the room. Where things are stuck. Where things aren't moving the way they should. I relate to a body before I've even touched it.

That gives me my first clues as to where the real problem might be hiding.

Then you're on the couch, and I put my hands on you — and again, I'm thinking structure. Everything connected to everything else. So if I feel tightness in the fascia somewhere, or in a muscle, I'm not just staying there. I'm checking — because there's a good chance something else, somewhere else in the structure, is tied to it. And I follow that thread and see how it moves.

And afterwards, that's how I know if we're actually getting somewhere. I can feel it under my hands — tissue that was dense and stuck, starting to soften and move again.

But the real proof? After the treatment, while you're putting your shoes back on, I can already see it in the way you move. And honestly, your face tells the story too — the change in expression is always remarkable. I should really start taking before-and-after photos, because it's genuinely something to see.

That's the whole approach, really. Look at the structure. Feel the structure. Follow where it leads.

Something I've been working on for a while is finally done — I've updated my website, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

It now reflects much more clearly what I actually do and how I work. No more trying to fit what I offer into a box — it's just honest, straightforward information about my integrated approach, the sessions I offer, and how we can work together, whether you're here in Nerja or anywhere in the world.

There's also a new Online Health Coaching page, for anyone who wants to start improving their health from the inside out — wherever they are.

Have a look and let me know what you think — and if you've ever been curious about what I do or how I might be able to help you, now's a great time to explore.

✨ Quick question: do you know if your left foot is as flexible as your right?

Most people don't. And that difference — between flexible and stiff, strong and weak, mobile and restricted — can explain a lot about what's happening further up the body.

So happy I just added a new ´toy´ to my clinic 😃: the Blackboard. It's a mobilising and strengthening tool for the feet, and it works on two levels, well on three even: it gives me more insight where your pain or tightness is originating from — and it lets you feel and experience your own feet in a completely new way (and I can strengthen my own feet, or I can lend it you to train with for a while).

Awareness is the first step to change. And it starts at the ground beneath you. 🌱

Book a session and let's see what your feet have to say.

From the 1st of June, I will be increasing my treatment prices. ✨

Over the years, my work has evolved into much more than a massage or treatment.

I approach pain relief, movement improvement and better health through an integrated combination of:

• Hands-on treatment to restore tissue function and mobility
• Targeted exercise and movement coaching to improve strength and balance
• Cellular health and test-based nutrition to optimise recovery and systemic health
• Lifestyle guidance and health strategies

What makes my approach different is the integration of these different elements, tailored to what each person needs to support long-term functional improvement — not just temporary relief.

With 30 years of experience in fitness, movement, sports therapy and health coaching, the time is right for my prices to better reflect the value, care and expertise I bring to every session.

Updated treatment prices will apply from the 1st of June.
As a thank you to my existing clients, current rates can still be booked until the 1st of September. If you would like the new price list or have any questions, feel free to send me a message.

Pain is your body talking. The question is — is anyone actually listening?
I am relaunching my hands-on therapy service, and it starts with a thorough movement assessment. Not just where it hurts, but WHY it hurts and what stops it from healing.

Then we get to work. Hands-on treatment, targeted exercises, and a plan that makes real sense for your body.

If you've been putting up with pain or stiffness, now is the time to do something about it. Comment PAINFREE if you think you can use my help. Or text me to make an appointment.
