Hello friends!

I hope this finds you well in these chaotic times. I have shared a
few updates here recently, and today I wanted to say a few words about this little e-book that I wrote a long time ago and that is still very dear to my heart.
Over the last few days I went back to it, edited it and made it much more reader friendly.

I am also in the middle of updating my website, and my work itself is taking a different shape. Somatic Experiencing has influenced me deeply over the last few years. It has changed the way I listen to the body, the way I work with stress and overwhelm, and how I understand what can help us feel more present and connected to ourselves.

And I really feel that this matters now, perhaps more than ever.
Come Back to Your Body includes three simple somatic practices using movement, voice and embodied imagination, for those moments when you are stuck in your head, overthinking, feeling overwhelmed, or simply a little far away from yourself.

If you would like a copy, I will put the link in the comments. ❤️
You will first receive a short email asking you to confirm your subscription. Once you have confirmed, the guide will arrive in your inbox.

From time to time, you will also receive my Love Letters from Elemental Soul Medicine, with reflections, practices and news from my work. I only write when I have something I genuinely want to share, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

I hope you find something in it that is useful to you, and perhaps something you will want to return to.

Something I read today has been sitting with me.

It made me think about how so many of the therapy and healing models we use have been developed by men, and how much women’s and girls’ experiences, and those of non binary people shaped by similar gendered expectations, have really been taken into account.

Not everything that shapes us comes from one big traumatic event. Sometimes it happens slowly, over years, through what we learn about being a girl or a woman: be nice, don’t be difficult, keep the peace, notice what everyone else needs, swallow your anger, ignore your tiredness, worry about how you are seen, say yes when actually you want to say no. Don’t be too loud. Don’t take up too much space. Be a good girl.

These things can shape how we feel in our bodies, how we relate to others, and how much space we feel allowed to take.

And I keep wondering about the language of “regulation” and “dysregulation” itself. Who gets to decide what a “regulated” body should look like? Sometimes I wonder whether these words can make something sound like an individual problem, when the body may actually have been adapting very intelligently to what was expected of us, and to the world we were living in.

Maybe some of our ideas about what is “healthy”, “regulated” or “normal” also need questioning, especially when so many of the models behind them have come from fairly narrow, Western and male centred perspectives.

If you’ve done therapy or healing work, did you feel that your experience as a woman was really understood? Or was there something important that seemed to be missing?

And what are you learning to listen to again now?

Hello friends :-)
I’ve recently joined the Natural Voice Network, a community of people working with voice in ways that feel very close to how I have always approached it.

For me, voice work has never been about singing well or getting the sound “right”.

It is about discovering what happens when we allow the voice to become more embodied, expressive, playful and real. Sometimes raw. Sometimes quiet. Sometimes surprising.

Voice has been part of my work for many years, alongside movement and somatic practice, and I’m glad to be reconnecting more consciously with this strand of what I offer.

I now also have a profile on the Natural Voice Network for anyone curious about my voice work and individual sessions.
You can find me in the member directory under Laura Valenti. I will put the link in the comments :-)

Hello friends!
A little update on where my work is now.

Voice and movement have been part of my work for many years, and they still are. Over time, that work has deepened through somatic practice and Somatic Experiencing, and I now find myself working more and more at the meeting place between body, voice, movement, emotion and expression.

I am interested in what happens when we have space to slow down, listen more closely to what is happening inside us, and allow something more truthful to emerge through the body and the voice.

I offer online 1:1 sessions, as well as groups and workshops, and I work in English, Spanish and Italian from the Alpujarra in southern Spain.

If you are curious about my current work, you are very welcome to message me here.

"Somatic Experiencing has been transformative for me. I put that down to Laura's skills and guidance in our sessions. Her warmth, understanding and clear explanations when exploring sensation in my body were immensely helpful during a truly terrible time in my life.

I came to Laura whilst suffering with severe chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms triggered by Long Covid. I was also navigating significant financial stress, which made it difficult to find safety in my body.

Laura created a safe container for me to explore what was happening in my body, and even over Zoom I could tell immediately that she was someone I would feel comfortable working with.

She went at my pace and when I felt overwhelmed, we slowed right down.

This meant I never had the major emotional releases I had expected. Instead, my healing was much more gentle and quiet, but no less transformative.

I noticed the biggest changes outside of sessions.

Things that had previously triggered old wounds and reactions became much easier to deal with.

I found clarity and calm in situations that would previously have overwhelmed me and led to shutdown.

I also feel that my sessions with Laura were a major contributor to my ongoing recovery from Long Covid and chronic fatigue syndrome.

I would recommend Laura to anyone looking for supportive, gentle guidance and healing through Somatic Experiencing. For me, it has been one of the most healing modalities I've ever experienced and was truly life-changing."

I am deeply touched when I receive testimonials like this!

Dear All,
My new newsletter is out.
It's about joy, but not as something separate from grief, care, exhaustion, or the reality of ageing parents and life stretching in many directions at once.

Thanks for being here!

There are moments in close relationships when something very small can activate something very big ....it could be a look, a shift in tone, a sudden coldness.

I have been sitting with this a lot lately...what happens in our bodies when connection is suddenly withdrawn. And that quiet place that some of us know well, where a part of us whispers: I have had enough. I don't want to be here.

I wrote about it in my latest love letter - about the nervous system, the voice, and what brings us back to ourselves. I hope it resonates...

Your exhaustion is not a character flaw.
Your body has been talking to you for months. Maybe years. The question is whether you're listening.
So many of us learned early that rest is something you earn. That slowing down is weakness. That if you stop, you're failing somehow.
But chronic exhaustion isn't just tiredness. It disrupts sleep, weakens your immune system, and keeps your nervous system in a constant state of alert that never really switches off.
And when we spend long enough ignoring what our bodies are telling us we lose access to ourselves entirely. We stop noticing what we need.
Nature doesn't work the way we've been taught to work. Seeds need darkness. Cold. The slow quiet of winter. You can't rush that part.
Neither can we.
Nobody benefits from our exhaustion. The world needs us alive, present, and whole.
My latest newsletter explores all of this, I put the link in the comments
