I met Indra Devi in the 1980s when, as part of her mission to spread yoga around the world, she decided to move to Buenos Aires.
My mother, with whom my sister and I used to go to yoga classes, took us to a talk in my home town.
A woman who was already quite elderly, wearing a tunic and with white hair, sat in sukhasana on stage and began to speak; I wasn’t even 10 years old at the time. The only thing I remember is that I was amazed by the lightness with which she moved and her ease, and, for some reason, ever since that talk, whenever we did shavasana in class, my whole focus was on being able to astral travel 😄
A couple of years ago, I was going through a tough time and needed to find something that would give me the strength to get through it, and, without realising it, I found myself reading her biography.
It was like a shot of optimism to understand the key to overcoming obstacles (of which she had many, and they were tough, in a life that spanned three centuries and many wars, amongst other things)
The philosophy of yoga, as a way of life, has been my path for a long time now – learning, maturing, making mistakes and straying from the path, but finding my way back to it with ever-greater conviction each time.
Thank you, Indra Devi. This sirsasana, done in one go and authentic, just like you, is for you.
Happy International Yoga Day!
