🎥 In cinema, the director decides where you look. In virtual reality, you look wherever you want.
But what happens when the key moment of the story unfolds right behind you?

Guiding attention in cinematic VR—without breaking immersion, without arrows, icons, or anything that pulls you out of the scene—remains one of the biggest challenges in immersive storytelling.

In a new work‑in‑progress, Jose Luis Soler-Dominguez (ChildTech lab) and Carlos González, PhD (AIWELL https://aiwell.uoc.edu/) explore a novel way to address this challenge, grounded in cognitive principles of perception 👀.

Our goal is to guide the viewer’s attention from within the scene itself, preserving presence while enhancing narrative impact.

🎉 David Mazoteras-Delgado is joining the ChildTech lab Tech Lab.

🧑‍🎓 He holds a Master’s in e‑Health from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy, and a postgraduate specialization in Pediatric Neurological Physiotherapy. He is also currently a PhD candidate in Health Sciences at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.

His background spans child neurology, early intervention, pediatric neurorehabilitation, motor development assessment, and the use of digital tools to analyze children’s behavior. This expertise contributes to multidisciplinary research and innovation across ChildTech’s projects.

🤝 Welcome aboard, David — we’re excited for what we’ll build together.

Is the future of pediatric care written in the voice? 🎙️

We are thrilled to share a sneak peek of our upcoming Scopus Review, authored by Lorenzo Crescenzi Lanna, a student at Sapienza Università di Roma, alongside members and collaborators of the ChildTech lab.

Lorenzo has analyzed over 70 solid studies on the use of automated vocal analysis in pediatric and adolescent populations. The findings show that we are transforming the voice into a non-invasive "digital thermometer" to track diagnosis, patient evolution, therapy success, and symptom severity over time.

2 Key Insights from our Review:
1️⃣ The Deep Learning Revolution: We are moving from basic acoustic metrics to complex speech embeddings (Wav2Vec 2.0, WavLM) that capture neurodevelopmental micro-nuances invisible to the human ear.
2️⃣ The Generalization Challenge: For these tools to reach real-world clinical practice, we must bridge the "diversity gap" (s*x, language, and ethnicity) that still exists in current datasets.

This review is a decisive step toward making vocal biomarkers a reality for child and adolescent mental health. We will share the full publication soon as we move into the next phase of our research with child and youth participants! 🚀
