Supporting Our Volunteers 💛

Volunteers are an important part of the Brave Hearts family, and we appreciate every person who gives their time, skills, and commitment to supporting our work.

We are grateful to receive a AUD 1,000 Volunteer Grant through the Australian Government’s 2025–26 Volunteer Grants program, supporting the work of volunteers who contribute to Brave Hearts Ethiopia Australia and our programs.

We were delighted to welcome Tamrat Achamyeleh, long-serving Board Member and former Communications Manager for Brave Hearts Ethiopia Australia, to our Drop-in Center.

Tamrat is an experienced social worker who provides vital oversight to the social work aspects of our programs. With over 25 years of experience in management, he brings immense knowledge and dedication to our mission.

During his visit, the staff and children welcomed Tamrat with a traditional coffee ceremony, a wonderful moment to connect, share stories, and celebrate our Brave Hearts family. Now residing in Ethiopia, Tamrat will also be lending his expertise locally by volunteering in leadership roles.

Raising Awareness, Creating Safer Communities 💜

We are proud to share that our Founder and Director, Mimi K Tilahun (Koni), recently delivered a presentation on Domestic and Family Violence Awareness for the Ethiopian community in Melbourne, Australia.

With her professional background in counseling and psychotherapy, Koni brought valuable knowledge and insights to this important conversation, helping raise awareness and encourage informed, supportive, and safer communities.

Koni is a qualified and accredited Counselor, holding a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy, a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology, and a Diploma of Applied Social Science (Psychology) from Australian universities.

Back to School, New Beginnings! 📚

The first day of school is here, and our Brave Hearts children are stepping into a new school year with big smiles, fresh uniforms, new school bags, and essential learning materials!

For every child, a new school year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, dream, and discover their potential.

We are deeply thankful to Emirates Airlines, for donating school bags and our major donor Dean Hanson for helping our children start the new school year with confidence and joy.

Meet Saron!

Saron has been promoted to Grade 6 with excellent results, earning a grade average of 81.9! 📚🎉 With support from BHE’s after-school tutorials, Saturday sessions, and educational materials, she continues to grow and pursue her goals.

Saron loves music, dance, and spending time with friends. 🎶 Her dream is to become a nurse-midwife and help reduce infant deaths. With determination and hard work, she is taking steps toward a brighter future!
