Arat Kilo Child Care and Community Development is an indigenous NGO established in 1978 with missions to promote, care and protect impoverished women and children by creating them access to health, education and livelihood. Its vision is to see strong, healthy, and sustainable society where care and protection of children, youth and women is promoted. The organization focus on women and youth focus to address HIV/AIDS and reproductive health problems. AKCCCD has been registered and licensed by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ministry of Justice, Charities and Societies Agency as Ethiopian Residents Charity. In the past 40 years, the organization has mobilized massive resources from the communities & donors to meet the development needs of children, women, and youth in Addis Ababa, Mekele (Tigrai) and Sululta (Oromia). It has been working in partnership with German Foundation for World Population (DSW), Christian Children Fund of Canada, USAID, Pathfinder International, Child fund, World Vision, Youth Associations and or Clubs, Community Based Organizations and the government. Besides, it participates on Adolescents and Youth Reproductive Heath Forum which is funded by David and Lucile Packard Foundation and organized under the Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (CCRDA) – where AKCCCD is an active member. Since its establishment, in collaboration with its partners, AKCCCD has been managing projects that focus on education, water & sanitation, primary health care, sexual and reproductive health/FP and sustainable livelihood, and thus has brought positive changes on the life of children, youth and women. The organization met the welfare of over 5,000 vulnerable children; constructed and renovated 10 schools & toilets; equipped health centers; established saving & credit cooperatives with current capital of 45 million birr; involved 1000 youths and women in IGAs/Jobs; and reached over 50,000 youths with RH/FP, STI, and HIV/ADIS services.
