The Iron Man, Mr. Gosa Aman – Head of Asella Town Health Office
When Mr. Gosa Aman first joined the Asella Town Health Office, the working environment was far from favorable. At that time, the health center was providing only basic routine services and limited laboratory diagnostic services, mainly led by nurses and public health professionals (HOs).
Today, history has completely changed.
Under his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment, Asella Health Center has transformed into Tokuma Primary Hospital, with remarkable expansion in both infrastructure and human resources. Highly qualified professionals, including doctors, IESO specialists, radiologists, medical interns, and resident physicians from Arsi University, have joined the institution through a strong Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Healthcare services have now been upgraded to comprehensive primary hospital services, and the inauguration of the Medical Imaging Center stands as a historic milestone not only for Asella Town but also for the entire Arsi Zone.
One of the most remarkable achievements during his leadership has also been the tremendous growth in human resources. In 2010 E.C., the total number of Town Health Office staff was only 117. Today, in 2018 E.C., the number has grown to 210 through his strong commitment and continuous efforts in convincing and mobilizing all concerned bodies toward strengthening the health sector.
Remarkable achievements recorded during his leadership include:
• Successful implementation of two model community pharmacies
• Increase in the number of medium clinics from 9 to 19
• Expansion of drug stores and pharmacies from 17 to 56
• Launch of Community-Based Health Insurance (CBHI) in 2013 E.C.
• Currently, in 2018 E.C., the total number of insured beneficiary households has reached 20,188
• Current CBHI insurance budget has grown to 35 million birr
• Successful implementation of Cesarean Section (CS) services and other surgical interventions in two health centers
• Ranked 1st among all sectors in Asella Town for four consecutive years
What more can be said?
History itself will forever remember your remarkable contribution.
Thank you, Mr. Gosa Aman, all town higher officials, and the Oromia Health Bureau for your vision, leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare services for the community.
May you live long, continue achieving even greater success, and inspire generations to come.
