Project HOPE Visit Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital to Review Laboratory Progress

BAHIR DAR, ETHIOPIA, September 2026 — Project Hope Representatives led by Dr. Wes Kim Director for Global Health Programs, American Society for Microbiology (ASM) and Dr. Eyasu Tigabu, Senior AMR/Lab Advisor Health Security Activity Project, ASM consultant paid a visit to Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital to evaluate the impact of their joint support.

During the visit, the delegation focused on the hospital’s bacteriology laboratory, which has been substantially strengthened through ongoing collaborative efforts. The tour allowed representatives to directly observe the practical results, upgraded capabilities, and operational improvements resulting from Project HOPE’s technical and resource support.

Following the laboratory assessment, the leadership team held strategic discussions with officials from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The meetings centered on evaluating current benchmarks and identifying opportunities to further strengthen and expand the strategic collaboration in the areas of mutual interest.

በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሕክምናና ጤና ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ዩኒቨርሲቲው ባወጣው አዲስ የመካከለኛ አመራሮች መመደቢያ መመሪያ መሰረት ብቁ አመልካቾችን አወዳድሮ የኮሌጁ የሕክምና ትምህርት እና አገልግሎት ምክትል ድሬክተር (Deputy Director, Medical Education and Services) ቦታ መመደብ ይፈልጋል፡፡

የማወዳደሪያ መሥፈርት
==============
1ኛ. የትምህርት ደረጃ ሁለተኛ ዲግሪ(ሌክቸረር) እና ከዚያ በላይ ማዕረግ ያለው/ያላት፣
2ኛ. በከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋም፣ በጥናትና ምርምር ወይም መሰል ተቋማት፣ በመማር ማስተማር፣ ሕክምናና ማኅበረሰብ አገልግሎት ወይም መሰል ተልዕኮ ባላቸው ተቋማት በልዩ ልዩ ኃላፊነት እርከን ያገለገለ/ችና ጉልህ አስተዋፅኦ ያበረከተ/ች፣
3ኛ. በሚያመለክቱበት ዘርፍ ያለውን ተጨባጭ ሁኔታ ባገናዘበ መልኩ የሕክምና ትምህርትና አገልግሎት ተደራሽነት፣ ፍትሐዊነት፣ ጥራትንና ደኅንነት፣ ተገቢነትና ዓለም አቀፋዊነትን ለማሳካት፣ ኮሌጁን የትምህርትና አገልግሎት የልህቀት ማዕከል ለማድረግ እና ክሱትነቱን ለመጨመር፣ ተጨማሪ ሀብት ለማስገኘት፣ እንዲሁም ዓለም አቀፋዊና አገራዊ ጉድኝቶችን ለመፍጠርና ለማስፋት በሚደረገው ሂደት አስተዋጽኦ ለማበርከት የሚያስችል አጭር ስትራቴጅያዊ (ስልታዊ) ዕቅድ ማዘጋጀትና ማብራሪያ መስጠት የሚችል/የምትችል፣
4ኛ. ከኮሌጁ የሚሰጠውን ዝርዝር ኃላፊነት በቅንነት፣ በትጋትና በታማኝነት ተቀብሎ በከፍተኛ ብቃት የሚፈፅም፣
5ኛ. የኮሌጁ አመራሮች፣ የማኔጅመንት አባላት፣ የሕክምና ትምህርት መምሕራን ተወካዮች እና ሌሎች የሚመለከታቸው አካላት ተጋብዘው በሚገኙበት መድረክ በአጀንዳዎች ላይ በአካል ተገኝቶ/ታ ማብራሪያና ገለፃ መስጠት የሚችል/የምትችል፣
6ኛ. ከትምህርት ወይም ምርምር ወይም ሌሎች ጉዳዮች ጋር በተያያዘ መደበኛ የሥራ እረፍት ላይ ያልሆነ/ች እና ለቀጣይ ሦስት ዓመት በኃላፊነት ለማገልገል ፈቃደኛ የሆነ/ች::

አመልካቾች፡- ይህ ማስታወቂያ ከወጣበት ቀን (04/01/2019 ዓ.ም) ጀምሮ ባሉት አምስት (05) ተከታታይ ቀናት የሚከተሉትን ሰነዶች ማለትም

አዲሱ ዲጂታል ማይክሮስኮፕ የጆሮ ቀዶ ሕክምናን ወደ አዲስ ደረጃ አሸጋገረ

በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሕክምናና ጤና ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ሥር የሚገኘው ጥበበ ግዮን ስፔሻላይዝድ ሆስፒታል፤ ለማስተማሪያና ለሕክምና አገልግሎት የሚውል እጅግ ዘመናዊ ዲጂታል ማይክሮስኮፕ ወደ ሥራ አስገባ።

የትምህርት ክፍሉ ኃላፊ ዶ/ር ካሳው ከተማው፤ አዲሱን መሣሪያ በመጠቀም የጆሮ ቀዶ ሕክምና (Tympanoplasty) በዛሬው ዕለት በተሳካ ሁኔታ መጀመሩን ጠቅሰው፤ በቴክኖሎጂው መገኘት ከፍተኛ ደስታ እንደተሰማቸው ገልጸዋል። ይህ ዘመናዊ ቴክኖሎጂ ሆስፒታሉ የሚሰጠውን የሕክምና አገልግሎትና የመማር ማስተማሩን ሒደት ወደ ላቀ ደረጃ እንደሚያሸጋግረውም አስረድተዋል።

በክረምት በጎ-ፈቃድ የዘመቻ አገልግሎት ሕክምና ተሰጠ

የባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሕክምናና ጤና ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ጥበበ ግዮን ስፔሻላይዝድ ሆስፒታል የክረምት የበጎ አድራጎት የነፃ ጤና ምርመራ አገልግሎት ከ25-29/12/2018 ዓ.ም ለተከታታይ አምስት ቀናት በደም ግፊት፣ የደም ስኳር ምርመራ፣ የቲቪ ምርመራ፣ ኤች.አይ. ቪ ምርመራ፣ የአይን እይታ ምርመራ እና የማህፀን ቅድመ ካንሰር ምርመራ ለ980 ታካሚዎች ነጻ ምርመራ አገልግሎት ሰጥቷል፡፡ የጤና ዘመቻው ከመደበኛ የሕክምና አገልግሎት በተጨማሪ በተለይም አቅመ ደካማ ለሆኑና የሕክምና ወጪን መሸፈን ለማይችሉ የኅብረተሰብ ክፍሎች ትልቅ እድል ፈጥሯል፡፡

በሆስፒታሉ የነርሲግ እና ሚድዋፈሪ ም/ዳይሬክተር የሆኑት አቶ መልካሙ ወርቄ በበኩላቸው ይህንን የክረምት የበጎ አድራጎት የነፃ ጤና ምርመራ አገልግሎት የህብረተሰቡን አቅም በመረዳት የነርሲግ እና ሚድዋፈሪ ባለሙያዎችን በማስተባበር ከላይ የተጠቀሱትን የምርምራ አይነቶች ለሆስፒታሉ ለ980 ሰዎች ነጻ የምርመራ አገልግሎት መሰጠቱን ተናግረዋል፡፡ ሆስፒታሉ ለአምስት ተከታታይ ቀናት በሰጣቸው የነፃ የጤና ምርመራ መካከል የስኳር እና የወባ በሽታ ተጠቂ የነበሩ ታካሚዎችን ወዲያውኑ መድሃኒት እና ክትትል እንዲጀምሩ መደረጉን ተናግረዋል፡፡ ይህ በዘመቻ የነፃ የጤና ምርመራ አገልግሎት የተጠናቀቀ ሲሆን ተመሳሳይ አገልግሎት ቀጣይ እንደሚደረግ ታውቋል፡፡

ከእነዚህ ምርመራዎች ጎን ለጎን የደም ልገሳ፣ የወባ በሽታን የቅድመ መከላከል እና የግንዛቤ ማስጨበጫ ስራዎች በስኬት መከናዎናቸውን ተከትሎ በክረምቱ የበጎ-ፈቃድ የዘመቻ አገልግሎት ተጠቃሚዎች ባገኙት እድል ዩኒቨርሲቲውንና ኮሌጁን አመስግነዋል፡፡

The College Hosts Delegation from University of Salford and UNICEF Amhara

College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Bahir Dar University welcomed a distinguished delegation comprising Dr. Muna Abubaker, Senior Research Technician (Biological Science) at the Faculty of Health, Community and Life Sciences, University of Salford, England, and Dr. Ambanesh Necho, Health Specialist at the UNICEF Amhara Field Office.

During their visit, the guests toured Tana Research and Diagnostic Center along with its affiliated laboratories and units, gaining firsthand insight into the College's research infrastructure and diagnostic capabilities.

The visit concluded with a brief presentation showcasing the College's academic programs, research achievements, community engagement clinical services and institutional capacity. This was followed by a discussion session chaired by Dr. Bekalu Wubshet, Chief Executive Director of the College, during which participants explored promising avenues for future collaboration between the institutions.

Emory University Team Visits Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital

A delegation from Emory University conducted a programmatic visit to Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital (TGSH), as part of the Emory–Ethiopia Partnership and the Saving Little Lives (SLL) Project.

The visit offered a valuable opportunity to evaluate the progress and impact of mentorship activities aimed at improving maternal and neonatal survival, celebrate best practices, identify implementation gaps, and collaboratively chart priorities for the next phase of the partnership.

Discussions centered on four key implementation pillars supporting the program's mission: Capacity Building, Data-Driven Implementation, Quality Improvement and Biomedical Engineering.

These pillars underpin critical areas of maternal and newborn care, including Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) and prevention of hypothermia, Neonatal resuscitation and respiratory support, Nutrition and feeding support and Prevention, early recognition, and management of neonatal sepsis.

Following the hospital site visit, an overview of the college, along with TGSH's performance and achievements and the strides made through the neonatal and maternal health mentorship program was presented. The presentation also spotlighted current challenges, future priorities, and strategic areas in need of continued support.

A lively and productive discussion followed, with the Emory team offering valuable feedback and engaging closely with College and hospital leadership to address identified gaps and explore new opportunities. Conversations also explored the partnership's broader impact and a strategic roadmap for future collaboration, with the Emory team reaffirming its commitment to supporting priority areas based on identified needs.

Closing the visit, Dr. Bekalu Wubshet, Chief Executive Director of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Emory University team for an inspiring and constructive visit. He reaffirmed the College and Hospital's unwavering commitment to improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes and welcomed continued collaboration in the journey ahead.
