Liberating Laments- an opportunity for grief work.

This workshop will provide:
-An intro to the tradition of Karelian and Ingrian Laments and a worldwide context.
-An opportunity to share about the path you have walked with grief.
-Guidance and the possibility to write/start writing your own lament.
- The opportunity to be heard and witnessed.

This will be a small group and places are very limited.

Good Vibrations- a vocal play session. (Suomeksi alla)

In this workshop we will sing together and explore playing with our voices. The day will be a combination of gentle voice warm ups, basic song learning and dipping our toes into the world of improvised voice play. Come and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of collaborative song making. If you would like to come but the price is not possible for you at this time please get in touch and we will see what we can do.

Tässä työpajassa lauletaan yhdessä ja tutkitaan äänellä leikkimistä. Päivä on yhdistelmä oman äänen lämmittelyä, laulujen oppimista ja improvisoidun äänileikin maailmaan tutustumista. Is it possible to feel rooted without roots?
What is home when you have been moving your whole life? Where is the intersection of roots, the experience of belonging and a sense of home? Can you be an outsider and fully experience belonging at the same time?

In spring I was having a hard time and I started this process of ‘empowering photography’ with Peter Palo-oja to explore rootedness and belonging. What is it to be one nationality on paper but not by experience. Finland was feeling super hard and I wondered if I will ever get to a point where I feel fully at home here.

Of course in many ways it’s not about the roots its about the expereince. Do we even need roots?

In my recent deep dive into the art of 'äänellä itkeminen' i have also realised that there is grief that needs processing. 
There are tears to be shed for all the people and places I had to let go of on my journey. 
Can these explorations and the allowing of the tears bring peace? Maybe the tears yet to come can shed some final layers.  
I do know that i have gained strength from being seen and witnessed in this way and I am super grateful to Peter for this journey.

For now, home is where my family and I sleep; where my children play and dream.

So grateful for these adventures and opportunities. Was a lovely trip to Oulu with Nina and such a joy and honour to meet Kaarina Kailo. May this be the beginning of many interesting and inspired conversations!

Meillä oli hauskaa. Vietettiin iltaa kauniiden maalausten ympäröimänä ja luotiin äänimaisemia. Äänimaiseman maalauksen on tehnyt Oili Elo.

A fun evening was spent amidst beautiful art work. We created voicescapes for some of the art. The one featured in this first slide was painted by Oili Elo.
