Most of us have heard this "Your metabolism slows down in your thirties" as the reason why we're tired. But when researchers measured daily energy use in over 6,000 people across 29 countries, they found it holds steady from age 20 all the way to 60 (Pontzer et al., 2021). So if you're 35 and often exhausted, a slowing metabolism probably isn't the culprit.
The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) framework focuses on another key point: how to stop spending our energy wastefully instead of how to get more energy. It's true that sleep, food and supplements refill our daily energy. But most of tiredness is due to energy leak, not a shortage of it.
I've started writing this up properly in a newsletter called Bamboo Grove, the same self-care work you've followed here, now with a home of its own. The article attached explains where your energy actually goes, and comes with a free one-week self-assessment to try. You can find the complete article plus the free self-assessment guide in the first comment.
The article and the free guide are for educational purpose that is not medical advice. If you've been exhausted for weeks, please see a doctor.
