At Jänkä Resort, stillness becomes a counterforce to everyday hectic rhythms, with deep connection to nature, to oneself, to others at the core of the experience. Fyra’s design work focused on the Safari House, including its restaurant, lobby, and safari-related functions. Fyra also contributed to the concept design of the outdoor yard area.

The restaurant is designed to be the warmest, most welcoming dining room in Lapland: like stepping into the kitchen of the generous hosts. Carefully thought-out yet robust details and the use of genuine materials evoke a refined country-house atmosphere. Furniture blends Fyra’s bespoke pieces with vintage finds and other carefully chosen details.

Natural materials, especially wood, root the space in its surroundings. Cozy lighting, combining interior fixtures with petite spotlights, highlights textures and details. Views toward nature are maximized through careful placement of furniture, while taller elements such as the wine cabinet and fireplaces create soft divisions and intimate zones. Local charm brings Lappish hospitality and communal warmth to the forefront.

The lobby greets guests with inviting furniture, a fireplace and a moss installation that sets a calming mood. The lounge serves as a shared resting point for guests of both the restaurant and safari activities. On the safari side, part of the overall entity yet discreetly set behind other elements, generous storage accommodates outdoor clothing and equipment, supporting smooth transitions between the interior and the wilderness beyond.

At Hotel Kämp, heritage isn’t locked behind display: it converses with today, unchanged in essence, yet renewed for the century ahead.

Hotel Kämp has stood as a symbol of refined luxury in the heart of Helsinki since 1887. As part of a comprehensive renovation, Fyra was entrusted with the interior design of the hotel’s rooms and corridors, both within the original building and the recently completed extension in the adjacent Helander House.

In total, the Helander House extension adds 3100 square metres of new space to Hotel Kämp, including 22 guest rooms, 15 of which are suites. Each suite is unique, reflecting a layered mix of past and present. The design draws deeply from Finnish cultural heritage, echoing the spirit of the Finnish Golden Age. Inspired by Helene Schjerfbeck’s and Jean Sibelius’ expressive artistry and the architectural elegance of the building, the new interiors respects the hotel’s heritage while bringing a sense of timelessness and lightness.

Guided by the client’s brand and values, every detail of the design was shaped with purpose. Thank you Strawberry for the excellent collaboration!

Located at Eerikinkatu 32–36 in central Helsinki, Konelabra is a red-brick landmark with a long history as a hub for technical education. Originally built in between 1925 and 1933 for the Helsinki University of Technology and designed by architect Onni Tarjanne, the building had stood empty for over five years before the new chapter began.

Fyra joined the project as the principal designer in late 2023, working with the property owner, Cobbleyard Real Estate, on a full reimagining of the building’s use. The goal was to translate the building’s potential into reality by creating functional and inspiring office and showroom spaces – preserving and enhancing the space to thrive beyond its 100-year history. Close dialogue with the Helsinki City Museum and Helsinki Building Authorities shaped the design process, as the building is protected under the SR1 designation.

Renovation began in spring 2024, with a focus on maintaining the building’s essential character while upgrading it to modern technical and functional standards. Many original features, from the floors and doors to the skirtings, have been preserved. The shade and style of the wall paint were chosen to match the original, while old technical features, such as cranes, electrical panels, and display cabinets, have been preserved on the premises as reminders of the building’s past as a school. New elements, like new staircases and window openings, mark the building’s evolving timeline while complementing its architectural style.

In collaboration with ARK Helsinki, Fyra acted as project architect and interior architect for the whole property – and as a design partner for several of the new tenants. The design balances the industrial clarity of the original architecture with warmer elements like wood. In the laboratory areas, the original spatial character and window views were maintained. With the Helsinki City Museum’s permission, new rooms and lofts have been constructed in selected areas – designed so they can be removed later without damaging the surrounding structures.

The building has been submitted for BREEAM In-Use certification, a commitment reflected in decisions regarding lighting, bathroom fixtures, and other energy consuming equipment. The Konelabra project embraces the principles of restorative architecture, favoring preservation over demolition. It prioritizes both user well-being and sustainability, with a focus on creating spaces that elevate daily life.

No other location in the heart of Helsinki holds quite the iconic status as Aleksanterinkatu 13. Completed in 1900, the building was revolutionary – the first in Finland designed purely for commercial purposes. Inspired by the business building architecture of 19th-century Germany and Vienna, it was met with enthusiastic response, transforming for its part Helsinki into a modern European capital.

The rich history of the building comes to life in Bouchon Carême, where robust and genuine materials create an easy-going atmosphere. The latest addition to the city’s dining scene by Hans Välimäki, Maria von Graevenitz-Välimäki, Arto Rastas and Miika Lönn, sits at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Bouchon Carême reimagines the classic Lyonnaise experience, inviting guests to savor timeless flavors with a contemporary twist.

The restaurant’s appeal lies in its authenticity and unpretentious style. Warm, natural tones and layers created by the sturdy wooden furniture set the scene. Towering wooden shelves, made possible by the high ceilings, divide the space into intimate nooks, with a lively bar on the front of the house. Large windows invite in the passerby, casting soft light and showcasing the vibrant energy inside. The menu’s focus on high-quality, simple meat and vegetable dishes inspired the design of meat lockers, evoking the charm of a traditional butcher shop.

The building’s identity and architecture play a key role in shaping the interior. A colour palette that complements the grand hallway honours the historical surroundings, while a modern market hall vibe ensures an approachable and genuine feel. The overall design is cozy yet bold, with details aligning with the style and carefully considered lighting throughout.

Embodying a holistic and architecturally robust design, the newly build private residence in Southern Finland serves as a calm haven.

Every element, from surfaces and lighting to fixed furniture, is carefully crafted to meet the needs of the residents. Collaborating with the homeowners in the design process, the aim was to ensure that the needs of the family of four are truly valued. To achieve a cohesive design that interacts with the architecture, the interior design was executed in close collaboration with Studio Bonbon Architects.

Drawing inspiration from a Mediterranean aesthetic, the architecture delivers a clear and compelling concept. The interior design disrupts uniformity with a variety of textures, ensuring the space remains vibrant and engaging. For a newly build house, the home features a harmonious blend of roughness and softness. Resisting the urge to fill every space with furniture or functions, the transition spaces are appreciated for their own value, not necessarily needing to serve other purpose than to provide a sense of openness. The thoughtful lines of sight facilitate serene transitions from space to space.

The final result is a balanced entity, born from the synergy of architecture, interior design and landscape architecture. The home is built to stand the test of time, evolving with the family. With an emphasis on acoustics and consideration for everyone's personal space, the home offers a perfect balance of peaceful privacy and togetherness.

Restaurant Teller, nestled in Helsinki's Töölö neighbourhood, is a warmly unconventional eatery committed to delivering memorable experiences that blossom into captivating stories.

Fyra joined the project as the concept designer, entrusted with shaping the spatial concept and identity. This encompassed everything from the layout and overall ambiance to the functionality of the space, aimed at delivering a cohesive, delightful customer experience.

Working closely with Werklig, who delivered the brand design, the overall concept is deeply rooted in the history and architecture of the building. Central to the concept is the fusion of classical architectural elements with bold art deco influences drawn from New York's vibrant restaurant scene – the perfect balance between traditional and radical.

The visuality of the space is shaped by the layers of different styles and eras. With nods to the past and present, the carefully mixed classical and modern elements reflect the restaurant's ethos. Whimsical and unexpected details contribute to the overall ambiance.

Emphasizing a synergy between culinary and space, the concept is based on creating a welcoming yet refined neighbourhood eatery, where culinary delights and youthful ambiance intertwine effortlessly, just like the owners and operators Teemu Laurell and Lennart Sukapää had visioned.

Lapland, the northernmost region of Finland, enchants with its unique year-round light phenomena, remarkable Arctic scenery and endless outdoor sport opportunities. Nestled in the pristine landscape near the Ylläs ski resort in Äkäslompolo, the private holiday home Villa Housu snuggles into its surroundings, evoking a timeless presence similar to a steadfast Arctic creature.

Designed in close collaboration between Fyra and the architect Otso Virtanen of Arkkitehtitoimisto ARK Helsinki Oy, Villa Housu is tailored to cater to the needs of an active outdoor family without compromising on design integrity. From the outset the dialogue between architecture and interior architecture has been a driving force of the design. Inside, the atmosphere exudes warmth and relaxation with minimalistic design choices.

Emphasizing both functionality and visuality, every element is thoughtfully intertwined to enhance the overall user experience. Storage areas for sports equipment blend into the cohesive layout, maintaining a sense of harmony throughout the rest of the space. Every nook of the premises is thoughtfully utilized to facilitate a seamless transition from daytime activities to cozy evenings in the living room.

Finnish spruce dominates the entirety of the premises, with raw wood covering all surfaces except the bathrooms, where functionality necessitates harder materials. The extensive use of spruce not only emphasizes its essential benefits but also ensures a seamless integration with the surrounding environment. Custom-designed wooden furniture further enhances the villa's unique character.

The building itself harmonizes with the arctic landscape, integrating the characteristics of traditional Finnish architecture into a contemporary setting. Despite being located within a new neighbourhood, strategically placed windows and openings offer glimpses of the natural scenery, fostering a sense of connection to the outdoors. The project's ethos of soft minimalism coupled with functionality remains consistent throughout.

Bathed in dark tones and interesting contrasts, the dimly illuminated interior of the restaurant Rook draws inspiration from the distinctive aesthetic of the traditional British pub culture. Mystical and dramatic undertones find harmony with feminine softness in the finer details. In line with the signature style of culinary duo Hans Välimäki and Arto Rastas, The Rook exudes a relaxed atmosphere.

Located within a historic building in the Punavuori neighbourhood of Helsinki, the ambiance of the restaurant is crafted from materials characterized by patina and grit. Bespoke designs by Fyra, including fixed furniture and table lamps, add original and distinctive tones to the premises. Preserving the historical essence of the building, the original spatial arrangement and architecturally fitting materials resonate throughout the space.

The premises consists of a bar and a restaurant area, with an intriguing addition—a secret cabinet tucked away behind a hidden door fashioned as a turning bookshelf. The mix of materials and classic British racing green serve as symbolic representations of the restaurant’s concept.
